PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Diego Gelder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cornelius Crumpet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Crumpet's choice of entrance music: Kings of Leon - Fans. Cornelius Crumpet will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Diego Gelder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Cornelius Crumpet!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gelder closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gelder lands in his opponent's guard.
Gelder throws and elbow that misses. Crumpet uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gelder's guard. Nice move by Crumpet!

Gelder looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gelder doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Crumpet preventing the sweep.

Gelder wants to control the position but Crumpet says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Gelder is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Crumpet pulls his head out easily.
Crumpet is keen to just control but Gelder is a slippery customer.

Crumpet throwing strikes but Gelder manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Gelder working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Crumpet wants to hold on but Gelder pushes him away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gelder with shots to the head and body - Crumpet looks very uncomfortable down there.
Crumpet bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Gelder is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Crumpet content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Crumpet slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Crumpet gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Nice takedown defense from Crumpet. No joy for Gelder on that attempt.
Gelder walks into a jab.
Crumpet fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Crumpet scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Gelder shoots in and drives through. Crumpet sprawls well.
Crumpet tries to bum rush Gelder with a series of wild strikes but Gelder uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gelder closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Gelder decides to stand back up. Gelder steps back and let's Crumpet get back to his feet.

Gelder is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Crumpet has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gelder lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gelder wants to pass the guard but Crumpet is defending well.
Crumpet trying to control but Gelder postures up.
Crumpet is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Crumpet is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Gelder dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Crumpet keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Horrible takedown by Gelder or perhaps it was just good defense by Crumpet which made him look bad.
No joy there for Crumpet, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Crumpet looks to score with a jab to the body but Gelder is just out of range.
Crumpet looks to land a left hand but Gelder moved out of range nicely.

Crumpet misses with a looping left.
Gelder has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diego Gelder. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crumpet keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Crumpet loads up on a big right hand but Gelder slips the punch.
Diego Gelder is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gelder has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gelder there as he acknowledges the shot.
Gelder throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Crumpet's waist but Crumpet gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gelder off to one side.
Gelder shoots in but no luck this time.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gelder drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Crumpet dives on top into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crumpet accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gelder gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Crumpet darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Crumpet lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Crumpet swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Gelder has managed to clinch.
Crumpet gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gelder.

Crumpet is leaning against Gelder and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Crumpet escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Crumpet shoots in but Gelder avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Crumpet rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gelder moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Crumpet clobbers Gelder with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Cornelius Crumpet seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gelder moves forwards but Crumpet connects with a nice, crisp jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Crumpet lands a left and a right that sends Gelder crashing to the canvas! Crumpet dives into mount looking to finish!

Crumpet jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Gelder is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Gelder and Crumpet has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cornelius Crumpet comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
