Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Harry Panchal! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yuki Yamamoto! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yamamoto forces Panchal back against the cage and clinches. Panchal is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Yamamoto to keep the fight standing. Panchal takes a knee to the side of the body. Yamamoto landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Panchal wants to break the clinch but can't.
The referee calls for Yamamoto to work.
Yamamoto breaks the clinch.
Yuki Yamamoto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Yamamoto scores with a hook. Yamamoto wants to clinch up but Panchal keeps it at a distance. Yamamoto connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Panchal dodges the punch combination from Yamamoto.
Yamamoto moves into the clinch. Yamamoto with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yamamoto breaks the clinch.
Panchal shoots for a double leg takedown but Yamamoto sprawls well. He's pushed Panchal's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Yamamoto appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Yamamoto has Panchal up against the cage in a clinch.
Panchal fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Harry Panchal. That's going to take a lot out of him. Yamamoto's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Yamamoto breaks from the clinch.
Yuki Yamamoto is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Yamamoto pushes Panchal up against the cage in a clinch. Panchal is looking to take this one to the mat. Yamamoto gets underhooks to prevent Panchal's takedown attempt.
Yamamoto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yamamoto doesn't manage to clinch there - Panchal circles away.
Yamamoto moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice inside leg kick there by Yamamoto. That's going to slow Panchal down. Panchal takes a swing at Yamamoto's ribcage but misses. Yamamoto has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Yamamoto tries to close the distance and clinch up but Panchal swats him away and circles back towards the center. Panchal seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Yamamoto throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Panchal's head. Panchal swats away the attempt to clinch by Yamamoto. Yamamoto wants to clinch but Panchal slips to the side so Panchal counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. This has been an exciting period of action! Panchal is pushing down on Yamamoto's leg trying to pass to half guard. Yamamoto is fighting to maintain full guard but Panchal has managed to sneak the leg through. Yamamoto won't allow Panchal to pass to mount. Panchal seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Yamamoto wants to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yamamoto is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Panchal has latched onto it... Big trouble! Panchal pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Yamamoto is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Panchal!
