PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maria Aguilar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viva Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Maria Aguilar has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Maria Aguilar seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Viva Marquez!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aguilar closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Aguilar lands in his opponent's guard.
Aguilar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Marquez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aguilar has gone for a leg lock! Marquez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Aguilar's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Marquez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Marquez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Aguilar's guard.

Marquez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Aguilar is looking for a sweep. Marquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Aguilar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marquez throws a lazy right hand but Aguilar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Aguilar seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Marquez shoots in looking for a takedown. Aguilar tries to sprawl out of it but Marquez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Aguilar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice takedown defense from Aguilar. No joy for Marquez on that attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Aguilar seems to be working for a kimura but Marquez defends the submission attempt.

Aguilar could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Marquez wants to counter with a clinch but Aguilar pushes him away.
Marquez shoots in for a double leg but Aguilar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Aguilar stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Aguilar wants it to stay on the feet.
Maria Aguilar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viva Marquez.

Aguilar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Aguilar showed some decent athleticism there.

Aguilar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marquez defends it well.

Aguilar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Marquez sees it coming and defends easily.
Aguilar is just content to waste time from the top position. Marquez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Aguilar keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marquez's head.

Aguilar throws a big right hand that misses.
Aguilar throws a strike but Marquez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Aguilar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marquez controls the pace.

Marquez drops back looking for a leg! Aguilar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Aguilar manages to kick Marquez off! Marquez jumps back into Aguilar's guard.

Aguilar wants to stand but Marquez is controlling the position.
Marquez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Let's hope that Marquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Viva Marquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Aguilar has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
