Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gordon Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rashad Byers!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Byers is predictable there

and Williams counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Byers!
Byers can't do much from the bottom here.
Williams landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Williams is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Byers has escaped the position, nice work there.
Byers is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Williams is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Williams definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Byers is desperately trying to improve his position but Williams has a good base and remains in mount.

Byers can't escape the position.

Byers is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams trying to control but Byers is having none of it.
Williams controlling his opponent.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Williams seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Byers for as long as he can get away with.
Williams has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Byers's face.
Byers is looking to improve his position but Williams isn't that keen on the idea.

Williams controlling from mount.
Williams has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Byers is trying desperately to improve position.
Williams takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Williams controlling well, preventing Byers from escaping the position.
Williams just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Byers tries to escape but Williams has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
What can Byers do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Byers turns into Williams and is now in his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Williams is on top in guard.

Byers wants to stand but Williams is controlling the position.
Byers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Williams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Williams wants to stand but Byers has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Byers looking for a sweep. Not yet Byers, not yet.
We've been informed that Byers has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Williams trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Williams gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Byers.
Williams takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Byers swings for the body but Williams moves out of range.
Williams appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Byers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rashad Byers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Byers thows a leg kick but Williams checks it

and Williams counters with a takedown into side control.
Byers is looking for a sweep.
Byers can't do much from the bottom here.

Williams thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Williams is looking to take a break and control but Byers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Williams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Byers can do to turn this around?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams lands some shots froms side control.
Williams connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Byers some visible discomfort.
Williams is chipping away with strikes.

Williams advances to full mount.
The referee warns Byers that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


Byers is rocked!

Byers keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Williams landing shots from mount.
Byers is still in real trouble! Can Williams finish him?

Williams working for a guillotine from mount but Byers is in no mood to give up.
Byers seems to have recovered his senses.
Byers looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Williams cracks Byers with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Byers from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Williams has the hooks in. Byers is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Williams.
Williams is hanging on to Byers's back as he tries to escape.
Byers is keeping busy.

Williams is working for a rear naked choke. Byers is not defending it well and Williams has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Byers refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Byers's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Gordon Williams!
