PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Girlfriend. Tyler has chosen Yep as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jake Ryan has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Tyler!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyler throws a jab but it's blocked by Ryan.
Nice uppercut there from Ryan.
Ryan will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Ryan wants to land a leg kick but Tyler is out of range.
Ryan lands a jab to the head.
Tyler lands a jab to the nose.
Tyler tries to clinch but Ryan moves out of range.
Ryan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tyler.
A head kick misses from Ryan.
Tyler tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ryan misses with a leg kick
and Tyler connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ryan scores with a hook to the body. Tyler takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Tyler shoots in looking for a takedown but Ryan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tyler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Ryan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tyler feints the counter takedown.
Jake Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tyler instigates a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A head punch on the inside from Tyler fails to land.
Still in the clinch, Tyler scores with a nice short uppercut.

Tyler jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ryan walks away with a smile on his face. Tyler gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Tyler throws a big shot that misses.
Tyler doesn't manage to clinch there - Ryan circles away.
Tyler moves out of range of the strikes.
Ryan throws out a leg kick but Tyler moves out of range and Ryan only half commits.
Tyler lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Ryan throws a hook but Tyler blocks it.
Tyler misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ryan throws a low kick but Tyler moves out of range easily.
Tyler lands with a right hand.
Ryan misses with a straight left.
Tyler moves out of range as Ryan strikes.

so Tyler counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tyler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ryan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tyler throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ryan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ryan pulls Tyler in close to prevent any damage.
Tyler throws a strike but Ryan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ryan decides to stand back up. Ryan steps back and let's Tyler get back to his feet.
Tyler lands a head shot.
Tyler misses with a double jab.
It looked like Ryan wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Ryan throws a jab but it's blocked by Tyler.
Ryan chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Tyler swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ryan lands a body shot.
Ryan misses with a series of wild punches.
Ryan lands with an overhand left.
Ryan throws a low kick, looking for Tyler's leg but Tyler calmly moves out of range.
Tyler closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Tyler tries to close the distance and clinch but Ryan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ryan throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Tyler looks to land a right hand but Ryan moved out of range.
Ryan moves out of range of the strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tyler takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Tyler is looking to clinch.
Ryan throws a hook but Tyler avoids it easily.
Ryan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ryan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tyler.
Ryan finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Ryan dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ryan stuffs the takedown.
Jake Ryan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Tyler.
Tyler bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Tyler drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Ryan defends it well.

Ryan connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Tyler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Tyler counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Tyler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Tyler postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ryan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Tyler, into his guard.


Tyler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ryan defends it easily.

Tyler working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Ryan has passed into half guard!

Tyler is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ryan pulls his head out easily.
Tyler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tyler has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Tyler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ryan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ryan's back!

It looks like Jake Ryan has been cut.

Tyler is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ryan defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Jake Tyler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A bone on bone clash there as Tyler blocks the leg kick.

Ryan throws a hook to the side of Tyler's head but Tyler sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ryan sets himself, and Tyler steps forward looking for the clinch! Ryan avoids it this time.

Tyler has Ryan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Tyler pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Ryan tumbling to the mat - Tyler dives into Ryan's guard.

Tyler lying in Ryan's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Ryan decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Tyler taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

A very excited looking Jake Ryan made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated Jake Tyler had this to say: 'Again, I was ready and motivated more than ever for this, I trained so hard and found my drive and determination again. I'm not done, no way.. I'll earn a third fight with Jake Ryan, he is a true Champion and he is a killer, congrats to him.'.
