PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig Rave (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Konstantin Khavin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rave's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, What Happened?. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Craig Rave!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Konstantin Khavin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rave shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've been hearing that Rave has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Khavin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rave scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rave wants to pass the guard but Khavin is defending well.
Khavin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rave connects with a nice short shot to Khavin's temple.
Rave not doing much here.

Rave is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rave is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rave has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rave is pressing down on Khavin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Khavin is holding on for now.
Rave throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rave looks to land a strike but Khavin avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Rave drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rave jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rave sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Khavin's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rave is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rave thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Khavin's head.
Khavin is staying active underneath Rave, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rave seems to be working for a kimura but Khavin defends the submission attempt.
Rave takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Rave thows a huge punch but Khavin dodges it nicely.
Khavin won't allow Rave to pass to mount.
Rave takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Rave looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Rave seems to be looking for submissions.
Khavin gets full guard.

Khavin has his foot on Rave's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rave works his way back into a safe position though.
Rave is working Khavin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rave looks up at the clock and then as Khavin takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rave smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Khavin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rave wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rave cracks Khavin with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Khavin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rave looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig Rave dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Khavin throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Rave throws a right hand that Khavin ducks under and follows up with a left that Khavin also avoids with ease.
Rave tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Khavin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rave moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rave tries to clinch up but Khavin circles away and keeps his distance.

Rave feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rave throws a big right hand that misses.
Rave is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Khavin can do to turn this around?

Rave throws a strike but Khavin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rave has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Khavin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've been informed that Khavin has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Rave is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Khavin throws a sloppy strike and Rave has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Khavin is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Rave!
