PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lon Osborn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Pop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jack Pop was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Lon Osborn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Pop!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Daniel Bishop and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pop shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Pop is pressing down on Osborn's thigh, looking to free his foot. Osborn is holding on for now.
Pop sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Osborn is trying to maintain the position but Pop is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pop frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Osborn tries to hold on but Pop pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pop trying to control but Osborn is having none of it.
Pop avoids the attempt from Osborn to control.
Osborn wants to try and get back to his feet.
Osborn is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Pop trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Osborn tries to hold on but Pop postures up.
Pop looks winded!

Pop tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Pop is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Osborn can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Pop lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pop wants to control the pace but Osborn is squirming around nicely.
Osborn is trying to reverse the position but instead Pop has taken his back - oops!

Pop not allowing Osborn to control his hands.
Osborn is trying to stand back up.
Osborn is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Pop.
Osborn trying to control the hands but Pop won't let him.

Osborn defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Pop's arms.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Osborn is trying to get back to his feet but Pop has full control of the position and if anything, Osborn has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Osborn is taking damage to the body and head.
Pop tries to keep control of the position but Osborn is staying busy.
Osborn trying to control the action but Pop just sinks the hooks in.
Osborn wants to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Pop dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pop keeps the fight on the outside.
Pop lands a jab-cross combination.
Pop tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Osborn was well out of range. Poor timing from Pop.
Osborn throws a big counter combination but Pop scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Osborn tries to clinch but Pop moves out of range.

Osborn forces Pop back against the cage and clinches.
Osborn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pop gets the underhooks and prevents it.
We've been informed that Pop has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Osborn breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Osborn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pop swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pop is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Pop is breathing heavily.
Osborn moves in looking to clinch but Pop pushes him off.

Pop drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pop is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Osborn striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Osborn is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Pop has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pop tries to move to mount but Osborn blocks the move with his legs.
Osborn tries to bench press Pop off him but Pop keeps the position.
Pop working the ground and pound from side control.
Pop is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Osborn will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Osborn struggling a bit here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pop prevents Osborn from escaping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Osborn has managed to clinch.

Osborn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Pop feints and as Osborn raises his hands in defense, Pop changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pop engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Osborn striking off his back but it's not causing Pop any problems.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Osborn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pop is controlling him.
Pop pushes down on Osborn's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Osborn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Osborn pushes Pop off looking to stand but Pop dives back in and keeps control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Osborn throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Osborn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Pop feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Pop tries to stand but Osborn is controlling from the bottom.
Osborn looking to control.
Pop prevents Osborn from getting back to his feet.
Pop wants to pass the guard but Osborn is keeping the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Osborn trying to keep a closed guard but Pop is proving a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Pop showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Osborn tries to clinch but Pop is having none of it.

Osborn has taken the fight to the clinch.

Pop gets control of Osborn's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pop will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Osborn trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pop's guard.
Osborn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Pop looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Osborn trying to control the position from guard on top but Pop is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Osborn trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Osborn wants to control from the top but Pop keeps moving.
Pop takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Pop had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Osborn defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Osborn trying to control but Pop is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Osborn has taken the fight to the clinch.
Pop wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Osborn has him pressed against the cage.
Osborn tries for a takedown. No joy.
Pop is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Osborn is trying to break free.
Osborn is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pop gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lon Osborn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Osborn tries to break free but Pop pushes him back against the cage.

Osborn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Pop has closed the distance and engaged Osborn in a clinch.

Osborn looking for a takedown.
Pop prevents a takedown attempt there.
Pop's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Osborn goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pop prevents it.
Osborn tries to circle away but Pop has him pinned against the cage.

Pop breaks from the clinch.

Osborn gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Osborn blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pop has hold of one of Osborn's legs. Osborn is fighting the takedown attempt but Pop gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Osborn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pop gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pop wants to control from the top but Osborn keeps moving.
Pop pushes down on Osborn's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Pop wants to stand but Osborn has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pop is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pop is looking to stall here but Osborn recovers full guard.

Osborn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Pop comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pop winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
