Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob St Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Van Halen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Van Halen's choice of entrance music: Here I Go Again. Jon Van Halen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Halen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Van Halen is thwarting St Paul's attempts to control the position. Van Halen is pressing down on St Paul's thigh, looking to free his foot. St Paul is holding on for now. Van Halen prevents St Paul from improving his position. Van Halen wants to stand up but St Paul has a hold of him and won't allow it. St Paul is looking for a sweep. Van Halen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Van Halen wants to free his trapped foot but St Paul is holding on for dear life with his legs. Van Halen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed St Paul's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A head kick misses from Van Halen. Van Halen shoots in and bounces St Paul off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Van Halen wants to pass the guard but St Paul is keeping the position. Van Halen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. St Paul is breathing heavily. St Paul gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. St Paul is squirming around, avoiding Van Halen's attempts to control the action. Van Halen is landing with some decent strikes but St Paul is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Van Halen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Van Halen advances position into side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Van Halen controls the position. St Paul is looking for a sweep. Van Halen decides to stand up, so the ref orders St Paul to his feet. Van Halen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ground and pound from Van Halen. Van Halen works his way into side control. Van Halen throws an elbow but St Paul slips to the side and avoids it well. St Paul is looking to reverse the position. Van Halen stands up. Van Halen moves into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Van Halen manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back. Van Halen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. St Paul doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. St Paul manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Van Halen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

St Paul is fighting to break Van Halen's control of his arms but Van Halen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Van Halen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

St Paul slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. St Paul is working an open guard so Van Halen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Van Halen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. St Paul blocking the ground and pound. Van Halen dominating with strikes here. St Paul bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Van Halen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that's the end of the fight! Jon Van Halen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Van Halen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
