PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kory Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucjan Morela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kory Stevens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lucjan Morela!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morela moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Morela shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stevens is trying to defend but Morela finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Morela is trying to work for a kimura but Stevens is defending well.
Stevens controlling the position for now.
Morela seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stevens does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Stevens has his hands clasped together around Morela's back. He's all about the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stevens is pulling down on Morela's head. It's preventing any offense from Morela, at least for the moment.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Morela trying to control the position from guard on top but Stevens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Morela shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stevens's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stevens will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Morela might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stevens haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Stevens gets to his feet. Morela looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Stevens's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Morela is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Stevens pulls Morela in close to his closed guard and prevents Morela from doing any damage or advancing position.

Morela shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Morela was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Stevens is not content to let Morela control the position.
Stevens can't do much from the bottom here.
Stevens is working to avoid the ground and pound but Morela connects with a decent elbow.

Morela wants to free his trapped foot but Stevens is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Stevens sneaks out the side door and pushes Morela away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Morela closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Stevens wants to get back to his feet.

Morela stops Stevens from getting back to his feet.
Stevens keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Stevens knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Morela on the ground.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kory Stevens will probably get the nod.

Stevens gets caught napping as Morela dives in and scores a takedown. Stevens manages to retain guard.

Morela fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stevens to the ground. Morela is now in Stevens's guard.
Morela is fighting to break Stevens's control of his arms but Stevens is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Morela postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Stevens can't keep his opponent in guard - Morela advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Morela is looking to pass Stevens's guard but actually Stevens recovers to full guard.

Lucjan Morela comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Morela has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
