Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fred Conrad! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dylan Champagne! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Champagne misses with a body shot.
Champagne takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Champagne gets in close and instigates a clinch. Champagne jumps guard but Conrad turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Conrad tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Conrad pulls Champagne into guard.
Conrad is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Champagne stops Conrad from standing up. Champagne is looking to stand up but Conrad won't let him. Conrad might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Conrad is looking for a triangle here but Champagne uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Conrad could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Conrad is looking for a sweep. Champagne has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Champagne throws out a loose jab but Conrad uses good head movement to avoid it. Conrad lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Conrad shoots in and bounces Champagne off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Conrad throws a strike but Champagne rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Champagne tries to free his leg and advance position but Conrad is retaining full guard. Champagne postures up in Conrad's guard and throws a big left but Conrad blocks it. Champagne wants to control from the top but Conrad keeps moving. Conrad utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Conrad pulls Champagne in close to prevent any damage. Champagne trying to control but Conrad is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Champagne wants to stand but Conrad has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Champagne landing with the ground and pound. Champagne with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Champagne is posturing up here but Conrad has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Champagne tries to roll out but it's too tight and Champagne has to tap! Slick submission there by Conrad!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Fred Conrad! Dylan Champagne was interviewed post fight and said 'It was a great fight. Hats off to him, he's a great fighter and he will go far.'.
