PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Elves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dolph Spengler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elves comes to the cage accompanied by Korn - Coming Undone. Spengler is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bully. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Elves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dolph Spengler!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spengler slaps away a takedown attempt from Elves, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Spengler let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Elves looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Elves gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Spengler breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Spengler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Elves paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Elves half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Spengler forces Elves back against the cage and clinches.
Elves jumps guard but Spengler stands there with Elves around his waist. Elves gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Elves is trying to break the clinch but Spengler has him pressed against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
With the fighters up against the cage, Elves throws an elbow but misses.
Spengler prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Elves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spengler trying to stall but Elves improves his position.
Spengler keeps control of Elves as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Elves is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Spengler pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Spengler throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Elves blocks it with crossed arms.

Elves gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Spengler regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spengler is pulling down on Elves's head to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Elves in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Elves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Spengler looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Elves postures up.
Spengler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Elves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Elves throwing strikes but missing.
Elves being controlled here momentarily.
Spengler can't keep his opponent in guard - Elves advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Elves thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Spengler's head.

Elves is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Spengler has managed to free his arm - good work.
Spengler is trying to stand up here but Elves is controlling him well.

Elves is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Elves is looking for a kimura but Spengler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Elves to get the leverage.

Spengler is trying to control but can't.
Elves looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Spengler tries to kick Elves off but Elves keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Elves looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Still in half guard, Elves seems content to control.
Elves lands strikes from half guard.

Elves is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Spengler blocking the ground and pound attempt from Elves.
Elves thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Elves stalling.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Spengler wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Dolph Spengler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Spengler with that takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Elves pivots, looking for a leg kick but Spengler is out of range and Elves settles back down.
Spengler is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Spengler will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Elves decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Elves in particular looking to stall.
Spengler is trying to get back to full guard.

Elves is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Elves is looking to take a break and control but Spengler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Spengler gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Elves looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Elves tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Spengler as Elves tries to tie him up.
Elves tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Spengler smiles and moves away.

Elves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Elves gets the takedown into side control.
Spengler tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Elves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Elves is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Spengler has escaped the position, nice work there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spengler avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Elves.
Ryan Elves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Spengler is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Elves asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Elves decides to stand back up.
Spengler throws a sloppy head kick and Elves moves out of range easily.
Spengler tries to clinch but Elves moves out of range.

Spengler pushes Elves up against the cage in a clinch.

Elves has Spengler pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Elves pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Spengler tumbling to the mat - Elves dives into Spengler's guard.

Elves stands up from Spengler's guard - Elves perhaps looking for a knockout.
Ryan Elves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Elves shoots in but no luck this time.
Spengler tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Elves manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Elves goes for a double leg but Spengler avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Spengler continues to drive forward.

Elves tried to counter with a leg kick but Spengler avoided it.

Elves throws a head kick that misses.
Spengler throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Spengler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Spengler fails in his attempt to clinch.
Elves changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Horrible takedown attempt by Elves or perhaps it was just good defense by Spengler, which made it look bad.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spengler moves into the clinch.
Spengler has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Elves seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Spengler can turn it around.

Ryan Elves is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spengler can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Elves controls the pace.

Ryan Elves showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Elves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
