Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Mikhail Van Kirkland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vadim Kalashnikov! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Kirkland throws a jab when Kalashnikov was well out of range. Kalashnikov connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
It looks like Mikhail Van Kirkland has been cut. Van Kirkland throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Van Kirkland throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Kalashnikov cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Van Kirkland avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kalashnikov, right into the meat.
Van Kirkland throws a nice inside leg kick. Kalashnikov shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Van Kirkland eats them both and turns towards Kalashnikov to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Kalashnikov lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Van Kirkland swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kalashnikov connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Van Kirkland's hands. Kalashnikov lets loose with a powerful body kick. Van Kirkland will feel that in the morning. Van Kirkland walks straight into a right hand from Kalashnikov - that's dropped him! Kalashnikov jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Van Kirkland from any more punishment! Van Kirkland complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Vadim Kalashnikov! Vadim Kalashnikov seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
