The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Francis DeMontford and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ma Aka scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Ma Aka is trying to get an arm triangle but Bowers is defending well.
Bowers tries to improve position but can't.
Bowers manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Ma Aka is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bowers defends it well.
Ma Aka is working for a submission of some sort.
Ma Aka is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ma Aka is looking to advance position but Bowers won't allow it.

Ma Aka is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ma Aka uses his free foot to push down on Bowers's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bowers.
Ma Aka prevents Bowers from getting the reversal.
Ma Aka looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Ma Aka looking to secure an arm triangle but Bowers defends it well.
Ma Aka with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Ma Aka is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Bowers has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Bowers!

Ma Aka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bowers gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bowers has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ma Aka has his foot on Bowers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bowers works his way back into a safe position though.

Ma Aka is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Bowers frees his head nicely. Oh but Ma Aka has switched to an armbar! Bowers is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
