PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Teodoro Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dion Watts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Watts's choice of entrance music: stand up. Dion Watts has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Teodoro Sawyer's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Teodoro Sawyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dion Watts!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sawyer gets a double leg takedown into Watts's guard.
Sawyer is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Watts working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sawyer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sawyer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sawyer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sawyer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sawyer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Watts is aware though and is defending well.

Watts got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sawyer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Watts has managed to get both his arms back between Sawyer's legs - danger averted.

We've been informed that Watts has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sawyer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Watts tries to keep at a distance but Sawyer has taken the fight into the clinch.

Sawyer manages to break the clinch.
Sawyer doesn't manage to clinch there - Watts circles away.
Watts looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Watts bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sawyer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Teodoro Sawyer will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Watts has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sawyer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sawyer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Watts for as long as he can get away with.

Watts shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sawyer's guard.

Watts wants to pass the guard but Sawyer is keeping the position.
Sawyer wants to sweep but no luck.

Sawyer is looking to cinch up a triangle. Watts throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Sawyer's body to avoid the submission. Sawyer has instead reached around Watts's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Sawyer arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Teodoro Sawyer!
