8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Mitchelson! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takayanagi moves into the clinch. Takayanagi tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Takayanagi has Mitchelson pushed against the cage. Mitchelson is trying to break the clinch but Takayanagi has him pressed against the cage. Takayanagi tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Takayanagi prevents the takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round. Takayanagi scores with a shot to the side of Mitchelson's head. Mitchelson blocks a body shot from Takayanagi. Takayanagi lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Takayanagi has a couple of punches blocked by Mitchelson.

Takayanagi scores with a shoulder strike. Mitchelson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Takayanagi walks away with a smile on his face. Mitchelson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Meguru Takayanagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Mitchelson. Mitchelson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Takayanagi seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Mitchelson tries to bum rush Takayanagi with a series of wild strikes but Takayanagi uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Takayanagi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mitchelson. Takayanagi darts in and clinches Mitchelson up against the cage. Takayanagi pushes Mitchelson back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Takayanagi creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Mitchelson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Still in the clinch, Takayanagi scores with a nice short uppercut.

Takayanagi's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. I was talking to Takayanagi's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Takayanagi controlling the action here for a moment.

Takayanagi lands a shoulder strike. Takayanagi keeps control of Mitchelson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Takayanagi is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Takayanagi effectively controlling the action here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Meguru Takayanagi. Mitchelson tries to keep at a distance but Takayanagi has taken the fight into the clinch. Mitchelson is trying to push Takayanagi away but Takayanagi has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Mitchelson doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Takayanagi walks into a straight right hand from Mitchelson. Mitchelson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Takayanagi moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Takayanagi clinches up with Mitchelson and pushes him back against the cage. Takayanagi working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Takayanagi lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Mitchelson backwards. Takayanagi lands with a light punch inside.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice body punch from Takayanagi. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A head punch on the inside from Takayanagi fails to land. Takayanagi throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Takayanagi lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Takayanagi works on Mitchelson's body with a couple of short punches. Takayanagi lands a left hand.
