The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Izturis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Lord fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Izturis has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Izturis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lord sprawls well initially but Izturis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Izturis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Lord's face.

A big strike lands for Izturis! That's really hurt Lord and he's turned his back - Izturis keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Izturis jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Emilio Izturis was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
