PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joan Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggy Erta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reggy Erta will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joan Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Reggy Erta!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Erta is looking to clinch.

Wells moves into the clinch.
Erta changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Wells fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Erta lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Wells backs up against the cage.


It looks like Joan Wells has been cut.

Wells postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Erta has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Wells after a bit of a struggle.

Wells drags the fight down to the ground.

Erta decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Erta gets caught napping as Wells dives in and scores a takedown. Erta manages to retain guard.
Erta avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Wells postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Erta has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Wells is on him like a limpet, forcing Erta back against the cage.
Wells wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Erta's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wells fails with a takedown attempt.
Wells shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Erta as he jumps to the side.

Erta closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Wells tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Erta just stands there and leans against the cage.
Erta is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Wells pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Erta breaks the clinch.
Erta shoots for a takedown but Wells saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Erta shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wells sprawls well. Wells wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Erta gets slowly back to his feet.

Wells dives in and grabs Erta's left leg, looking for a takedown. Erta pushes down on Wells's head and hops out.
Reggy Erta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wells throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Erta counters with a straight right hand.
Erta misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Wells is trying hard to land a takedown here. Erta sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Good leg kick by Erta there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Erta moves into range and clinches up with Wells.
Wells jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Erta walks away with a smile on his face. Wells gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Erta tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Erta slaps away a takedown attempt from Wells, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Erta fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wells, pushing him back against the cage.

Erta's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Erta has closed the distance and engaged Wells in a clinch.
Erta wants a takedown but no success here.
Erta goes for a takedown attempt but Wells pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Erta working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wells doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wells manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joan Wells will probably get the nod.

Erta keeps the fight on the outside.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
