Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mateus Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santiago tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Irvin paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Irvin looks for a takedown but Santiago sprawls well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Irvin looking to sit in guard and control but Santiago gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Irvin controls Santiago momentarily but Santiago frees himself.
Santiago wants to stand and escape but instead Irvin has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santiago can do anything to dispel that myth.

Irvin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Irvin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Santiago is letting Irvin control him for a moment.
Irvin wants to control but Santiago is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Irvin tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Irvin goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Santiago has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Irvin but great work by Santiago.
Irvin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Irvin is trying to control but can't.
Santiago wants to stand up but Irvin is controlling the position.

Santiago is looking for a kimura but Irvin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Santiago to get the leverage.
Santiago looks gassed!
Irvin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Irvin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Santiago doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Santiago manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Santiago moves in looking to clinch but Irvin pushes him off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Irvin looks to score with a jab to the body but Santiago is just out of range.

Santiago closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Santiago looking to throw knees to the head but Irvin is blocking nicely.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Irvin.
Irvin throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Santiago is breathing heavily.
Irvin stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Irvin is looking to break free of the clinch but Santiago has double underhooks.
Santiago goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Irvin prevents Santiago from breaking the clinch.
Santiago is pressed up against the cage. Irvin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Santiago down to the mat. Santiago avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Danga de danga de dang - Irvin scores with a four punch combination!
Irvin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A head kick misses from Irvin.
Irvin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Santiago but Santiago pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maurice Irvin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mateus Santiago is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Irvin lands a jab to Santiago's midsection.
Irvin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Santiago takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Irvin looks to score with a jab to the body but Santiago is just out of range.
Irvin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Irvin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Irvin lands a head kick. Santiago smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Santiago tries to clinch but Irvin is having none of it.
Irvin takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Santiago is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Irvin.
Irvin scores with a jab.


Santiago is rocked!
Maurice Irvin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Irvin lands a huge takedown. Santiago is out but the ref is slow to react and Irvin lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Santiago lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Maurice Irvin!
