Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quinton Jackson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paco Velanze! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jackson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jackson is looking to clinch. Jackson jabbing away but nothing is landing. Jackson takes the fight into the clinch. Velanze manages to break the clinch.
Velanze shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jackson but Jackson pushes him off and we're back to square one. Velanze walks into a jab. Jackson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Jackson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Jackson throws a solid leg kick but Velanze takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Jackson. Jackson throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jackson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Velanze backs up against the cage.
Velanze tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Jackson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Velanze has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jackson is working away from the top position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Velanze looks like he's trying to stand up.

Jackson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Jackson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Velanze for as long as he can get away with.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Velanze keeping control of the position. Jackson wants to stand but Velanze has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Velanze wants to improve his position but Jackson is controlling well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velanze tries to kick Jackson off but Jackson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Velanze trying to control but Jackson postures up.
Jackson controlling the pace. Jackson decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Jackson connects with a jab. Velanze takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Velanze tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Jab, jab by Jackson - just one landing.
It looks like Paco Velanze has been cut. Jackson scores with a body shot.
Velanze looks gassed! Jackson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Velanze sprawls well initially but Jackson persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Jackson trying to control the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Quinton Jackson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Paco Velanze's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Velanze avoids the head kick by Jackson.
Jackson is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Jackson misses with a double jab.
Quinton Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Velanze is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Jackson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jackson feints and as Velanze raises his hands in defense, Jackson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Velanze is trying to control the position but Jackson postures up. Velanze has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jackson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Jackson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Jackson wants to control from the top but Velanze keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Jackson has Velanze up against the cage in a clinch.
Jackson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Velanze has him pressed against the cage. Velanze stops a takedown attempt from Jackson.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson gets control of Velanze's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jackson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Velanze trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom. Jackson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Velanze wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving. Jackson has Velanze pulled in close to control his posture. Velanze would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Velanze being controlled here momentarily. Jackson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Jackson keeping moving, preventing Velanze from controlling successfully. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Velanze tries to clinch but fails miserably and Jackson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Jackson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Velanze on the side of the head. Jackson throws a chopping leg kick but Velanze manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Jackson stuns Velanze with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Jackson throws the kick towards the body but Velanze avoids it. Jackson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

A head kick misses from Jackson. Jackson moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Jackson lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Velanze wants to clinch up but Jackson keeps it at a distance. Velanze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson jabs Velanze right on the nose. Velanze blinks but takes it well. Jackson throws a push kick but Velanze slaps the foot to one side. Nice takedown defense from Velanze. No joy for Jackson on that attempt. Velanze tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jackson swivels and escapes. Jackson misses with a takedown and Velanze counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Velanze sitting in guard, not really doing much. Velanze tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard. Jackson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Velanze on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson has his hands on Velanze's head, controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jackson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Velanze gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Jackson keeping moving, preventing Velanze from controlling successfully. Velanze wants to get up but he can't break Jackson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jackson holds on and takes a little breather. Velanze trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Jackson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Velanze takes the fight into the clinch. Jackson is pressed up against the cage. Velanze has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jackson down to the mat. Jackson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Quinton Jackson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jackson darts in and clinches Velanze up against the cage. Velanze looking to slow down the pace here. Velanze keeps control of Jackson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jackson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Velanze prevents Jackson from breaking the clinch. Jackson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Jackson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Velanze has him pressed against the cage. Jackson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Velanze just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quinton Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jackson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jackson moves into range and clinches up with Velanze. Jackson has had enough of the clinch but Velanze keeps him there for the moment. Velanze prevents Jackson from breaking the clinch.
