Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robin Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arapeta Ma Aka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arapeta Ma Aka has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Robin Palmer's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robin Palmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arapeta Ma Aka!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, John Mangel and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Palmer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Palmer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Ma Aka has Palmer pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ma Aka pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Palmer tumbling to the mat - Ma Aka dives into Palmer's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Palmer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ma Aka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Palmer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ma Aka gets a takedown into half guard.

Ma Aka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Palmer is just riding it out for now. Ma Aka eventually gives up the hold.

Ma Aka is working for a kimura but Palmer is defending it quite comfortably.
Ma Aka is just content to waste time from the top position. Palmer takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Palmer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ma Aka controls the pace.

Ma Aka looking to sit in guard and control but Palmer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Palmer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ma Aka works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ma Aka has his foot on Palmer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Palmer works his way back into a safe position though.

Palmer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ma Aka controls Palmer momentarily but Palmer frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Arapeta Ma Aka will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Ma Aka shoots in looking for a takedown. Palmer tries to sprawl out of it but Ma Aka keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Palmer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ma Aka or perhaps it was just good defense by Palmer, which made it look bad.
Ma Aka goes for a double leg but Palmer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Palmer continues to drive forward.
Robin Palmer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arapeta Ma Aka.

Ma Aka tries to kick Palmer off but Palmer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Ma Aka is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Palmer pulls his head out easily.

Palmer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ma Aka's head.
Palmer lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ma Aka has a hand on Palmer's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Palmer takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Palmer jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ma Aka manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Palmer is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ma Aka's shoulder. That is not cool.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Palmer connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Ma Aka some visible discomfort.

Ma Aka is trying to control Palmer's posture but Palmer avoids it.

Robin Palmer dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Palmer closes the distance and clinches.
Ma Aka tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Palmer just stands there and leans against the cage.

Palmer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ma Aka controls Palmer momentarily but Palmer frees himself.

Ma Aka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ma Aka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Palmer's guard.

Ma Aka wants to control from the top but Palmer keeps moving.
Ma Aka wants to stand and escape but instead Palmer has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Palmer lands a couple of digs.

Ma Aka is looking for a triangle here but Palmer uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Palmer looks up at the clock and then as Ma Aka takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Palmer smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Ma Aka tries to buck Palmer off but Palmer is having none of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ma Aka is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Palmer asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Ma Aka tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Palmer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ma Aka fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Palmer avoids it really well and circles away.
Palmer is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Ma Aka.

Palmer drives through and clinches with Ma Aka against the cage.

Arapeta Ma Aka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Palmer ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Ma Aka tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Palmer defends well and Ma Aka ends up having to push Palmer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robin Palmer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Palmer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
