Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Mcconnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Diaz! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcconnell clinches. Diaz manages to pull guard.
Mcconnell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Diaz has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mcconnell has passed into side control.
Diaz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mcconnell is controlling him well. Mcconnell wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well. Diaz is trying to control Mcconnell's posture but Mcconnell avoids it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mcconnell tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well. Diaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcconnell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Diaz is looking to clinch but Mcconnell is avoiding it.

Diaz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mcconnell manages to work his way to half guard, despite Diaz's best efforts. Mcconnell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diaz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diaz's back! I really don't envy Diaz right now.

Diaz wants to counter the offense by Mcconnell and move into the clinch position. Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mcconnell paws at him with a jab and circles away. Diaz is looking to clinch. That's one minute gone in the round. Mcconnell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard. Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Diaz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mcconnell. Richard Mcconnell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mcconnell stopping the sweep attempt from Diaz. Diaz is trying to control the position but Mcconnell postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mcconnell wants to get up but he can't break Diaz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Mcconnell with a flurry of punches that miss. Diaz wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Mcconnell is now in half guard. Mcconnell wants to work for an arm triangle but Diaz is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mcconnell swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mcconnell fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Diaz lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcconnell enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcconnell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Mcconnell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Mcconnell has his foot on Diaz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Diaz works his way back into a safe position though. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Mcconnell keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully. Diaz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Carlos Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Diaz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mcconnell to the ground. Diaz is now in Mcconnell's guard. Diaz lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mcconnell is on top in guard.

Carlos Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
The fight stays on the outside here - Diaz looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Mcconnell is looking to counter punch. Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Diaz seems to be looking for submissions.
