Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Claude Pierre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Channing Mackenzie! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pierre misses with a double jab.
Pierre shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mackenzie napping and manages to drive through into side control! Pierre wants to control but Mackenzie is keeping him busy. Mackenzie defending against the ground and pound. Mackenzie taking punishment in the form of punches.
Pierre misses with the ground and pound. Pierre creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Pierre controls the position. Mackenzie avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Pierre. Pierre in side control lands a decent elbow. Pierre tries to advance to mount but Mackenzie denies him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mackenzie is trying to control Pierre's posture but Pierre avoids it. Pierre creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mackenzie sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Pierre is looking to take a break and control but Mackenzie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mackenzie tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Pierre somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Pierre is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mackenzie is defending well though. Pierre let's go of the attempt for now. Pierre landing with strikes. Pierre throwing wild punches that miss their target. A lull in the action here.
Pierre lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mackenzie is really stuck here.
Pierre avoiding Mackenzie 's attempts to control his hands. Pierre lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pierre is trying to stick to Mackenzie's back but Mackenzie is turning into Pierre. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pierre's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Mackenzie. Mackenzie won't allow Pierre to get back to his feet. Pierre is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Pierre keeping moving, preventing Mackenzie from controlling successfully. Pierre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Pierre pulls Mackenzie in close to prevent any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pierre lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Pierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mackenzie swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pierre preventing the sweep. Pierre might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Pierre trying to control but Mackenzie is working from the bottom. Pierre in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pierre trying to control but Mackenzie is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pierre accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jean Claude Pierre dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Mackenzie steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pierre. Mackenzie tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. A swing and a miss from Pierre. Mackenzie is looking to clinch. Pierre looks to score with a jab to the body but Mackenzie is just out of range. Pierre misses with an uppercut. Mackenzie saw that one coming. Mackenzie has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mackenzie there as he acknowledges the shot. Mackenzie goes for a double leg but Pierre avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pierre continues to drive forward. Jean Claude Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mackenzie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pierre avoids it really well and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oh, that's a big right hand from Pierre and Mackenzie goes tumbling to the canvas! Pierre follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Mackenzie is rocked!
It looks like Channing Mackenzie has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Pierre looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mackenzie with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mackenzie is still in real trouble! Can Pierre finish him? Jean Claude Pierre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pierre winds up and cracks Mackenzie with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Pierre lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Mackenzie! More strikes land and this one is all over! Pierre jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jean Claude Pierre!
