Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dereck Catone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dereck Catone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Melendez!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Catone throws a lazy head kick

and Melendez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Melendez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Melendez moves into full mount! Catone won't be happy about that!

Catone is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Catone is working to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Catone is in a horrible position here. Melendez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Melendez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Catone tries to lock up and control but Melendez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Catone is squirming around, avoiding Melendez's attempts to control the action.
Melendez landing strikes, looking to finish!
Catone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Catone tries to get out of the position.
Catone is wriggling around trying to escape.
Melendez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Melendez avoids the attempt from Catone to control.

Melendez looking to control but Catone is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Melendez prevents Catone from getting the reversal.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Let's hope that Melendez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Catone is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Melendez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Catone is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Melendez looking to finish Catone with some ground and pound. This is bad for Catone!
Melendez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Melendez trying to control but Catone is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Catone tries to reverse the position but Melendez maintains control.
Catone is working hard here to advance position.
Melendez working the ground and pound effectively.
Melendez is landing with some decent strikes but Catone is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Catone is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Catone is squirming around, avoiding Melendez's attempts to control the action.
Melendez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Catone haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Melendez dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Melendez goes for a double leg but Catone avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Catone continues to drive forward.
Catone is looking to counter the offense by Melendez and move into the clinch.
Melendez fails to land the takedown.
Melendez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Catone avoids it really well and circles away.
Dereck Catone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Melendez.
Melendez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Catone sprawls well. Catone wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Melendez gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Catone tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Catone wants to control from the top but Melendez keeps moving.

Melendez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Melendez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Catone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Melendez on the ground.
Catone trying to control the position from guard on top but Melendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Melendez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Melendez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Anthony Melendez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Catone wants to control from the top but Melendez keeps moving.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Melendez has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Catone should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Melendez has tightened it up now! Catone should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
