PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dion Watts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Hert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Watts might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to stand up. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dion Watts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Hert!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hert instigates a clinch.
Watts has Hert pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hert manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Watts manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hert engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Watts has his foot on Hert's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hert works his way back into a safe position though.
Hert must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hert is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Let's hope that Hert has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hert won't allow Watts to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Watts closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Watts wants to control for a moment but Hert uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Hert keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Hert is positioning himself well to prevent Watts advancing to mount.
Hert wants to get back to his feet.
Watts looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Hert controlling the position for now.
Hert regains full guard. Nicely done.

Hert scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Watts shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hert shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hert showed some decent athleticism there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hert tries to stand and escape but Watts is controlling the position.

Hert stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Watts shoots in and drives through. Hert sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dion Watts. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hert moves into the clinch.

Hert manages to break the clinch.
Hert throws a series of punches but Watts avoids them all with ease.
Watts is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hert sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chris Hert dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Watts goes for a double leg but Hert avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hert continues to drive forward.
Hert misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hert shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Watts manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Watts gets caught flat footed, as Hert shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Watts had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hert defends it easily.
Hert pushes down on Watts's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Watts slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Hert tries to free his leg and advance position but Watts is retaining full guard.
Hert slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Watts working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hert doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hert manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hert stays in close to Watts's body and controls the position.
Chris Hert has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hert would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hert moves into range and clinches up with Watts.
Watts tries for a takedown but Hert manages to get underhooks.

It looks like Dion Watts has been cut.

Hert has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Watts regains guard immediately.

Hert not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Watts is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hert lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Hert has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Hert drives through with a takedown into Watts's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Watts looking for a guillotine here but Hert defends easily.

Hert gets to his feet. Watts looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Watts closes the distance and clinches up with Hert, looking for a takedown. Watts pushes Hert against the cage but Hert circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Watts shoots in for a takedown but Hert shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Hert looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Watts!

Watts takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Watts seems a little lost for a moment, as Hert dominates the positioning.
Hert is putting a hurting on Watts here, landing some big shots from side control.
Watts can't do much from the bottom here.
Watts tries to improve position but can't.
The referee asks Hert politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hert prefers to stall for the moment though.
Hert lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Watts down.

Hert has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hert moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Watts gets tackled into the cage by Hert. Hert maintains the clinch.
Hert lands an elbow inside.
Hert throws a head punch that misses.
Watts tries for a takedown but Hert manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dion Watts. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hert breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watts wants to clinch up but Hert keeps it at a distance.
Hert wants to counter with a clinch but Watts pushes him away.

Hert moves into the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hert escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hert blocks a head kick by Watts.

Hert clinches up with Watts and pushes him back against the cage.

Hert breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watts misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Watts sets himself, and Hert steps forward looking for the clinch! Watts avoids it this time.

Watts gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hert to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Dion Watts has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Watts wants to control but Hert is keeping busy.

Chris Hert comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hert has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
