PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Esteban Mcdaniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Curtis Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Esteban Mcdaniel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Curtis Rook!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rook throws a nice inside leg kick.
Mcdaniel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rook closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rook avoiding damage as Mcdaniel throws knees to the body.
Rook is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mcdaniel to keep the fight standing.
Rook goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mcdaniel prevents it.

Rook breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rook is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Rook throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mcdaniel tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rook is in Mcdaniel's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcdaniel isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Rook stacks Mcdaniel on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Rook!

Rook is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mcdaniel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mcdaniel gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Mcdaniel is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Mcdaniel is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Rook prevents Mcdaniel from getting the reversal.

Rook goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mcdaniel turns into him and now he's in Rook's guard.

Mcdaniel throws a big right hand that misses.
Mcdaniel postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Rook bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mcdaniel's guard.


Mcdaniel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rook can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rook shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rook showed some decent athleticism there.

Rook is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rook wants to sweep here but Mcdaniel controlling him for the moment.
Mcdaniel is looking to work some ground and pound but Rook has wrist control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Rook is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mcdaniel is defending well for now.
Mcdaniel has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rook after a bit of a struggle.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Rook closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mcdaniel quickly recovers to half guard.

Rook has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mcdaniel is really struggling to control Rook but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Rook stands up over Mcdaniel, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Esteban Mcdaniel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Curtis Rook is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mcdaniel has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Rook.

I've got Rook winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
