PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harris comes into the arena with Kevin Rudolf - In the City blaring out of the sound system. Sherk has chosen Divinations by Mastodon as his entrance music. Frank Harris has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Sherk!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris moves in looking to clinch but Sherk pushes him off.

Sherk forces Harris back against the cage and clinches.
Harris definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Sherk takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Sherk lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Harris backwards.
Sherk gets through Harris's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Sherk crunches a lovely knee into Harris's ribcage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sherk has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Sherk lands a body shot.
Harris tries for a takedown but Sherk manages to get underhooks.

Sherk breaks the clinch.

Sherk scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sherk is trying to ground and pound but Harris uses the momentary lack of control by Sherk to regain half guard.

Sherk is trying to work for a kimura but Harris is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sherk is working for a submission of some sort.
Sherk throws a strike but Harris avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Sherk trying to control but Harris is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sherk trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sherk clinches with his opponent.
Sherk prevents a takedown attempt there.
Sherk digs a right hand into Harris's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Harris's gas tank.
Harris drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sherk gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A left hand lands to the body for Sherk.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sherk gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Harris regains guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sherk in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Harris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sherk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Harris swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Harris utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Sherk passes into half guard.

Sherk is working for a kimura but Harris is defending it quite comfortably.
Sherk works his way into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sherk tries for a kimura but Harris is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Sherk dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Sherk rushes Harris and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sherk is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Sherk cracks Harris with a nice body shot.
Sherk lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Harris backwards.

Sherk wants the takedown. Harris is fighting it off but Sherk persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Harris's guard against the cage.
Sherk is working Harris over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Sherk scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Sherk with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sherk has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sherk not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sherk advances to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sherk is looking for a kimura but Harris is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sherk to get the leverage.
Dave Sherk has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sherk is working for a kimura but Harris is defending it quite comfortably.
Sherk keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Sherk passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Harris!
Harris tries to hold on but Sherk postures up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sherk moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Harris has worked his arm free - good work by Harris!
Sherk looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Harris is avoiding damage well.

Sherk in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Harris is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dave Sherk!
A relieved looking Dave Sherk thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
