PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Thorpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thorpe is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tom Sawyer by Rush. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Victor Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Thorpe!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed tries to clinch there but Thorpe circles away.
Reed feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Thorpe's calf.
Reed looks to land a right hand but Thorpe moved out of range.
Reed is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.


It looks like Scott Thorpe has been cut.
Thorpe with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Reed to score with a decent uppercut.
Thorpe takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Reed tries to clinch

and Thorpe counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Reed gets full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Reed is on top in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reed tries to stand but Thorpe is controlling from the bottom.
Thorpe has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The Power Plant. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Reed working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Thorpe is looking to stand up but Reed isn't so interested in that idea.
Reed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thorpe keeping moving, preventing Reed from controlling successfully.
Thorpe keeping full guard, as Reed tries to pass.
Thorpe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Reed postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Reed prevents Thorpe from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reed accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Thorpe wants to stand but Reed is controlling the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Reed forces his way into half guard.
Reed thows a huge punch but Thorpe dodges it nicely.
Reed throwing shots but Thorpe is blocking nicely.
Reed wants to stand up but Thorpe has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Thorpe showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Reed.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reed looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Reed's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Thorpe connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Reed scrambles back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reed swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thorpe lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Thorpe throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Reed on the side of the head.
Sloppy strikes from Reed. Those never looked like landing.
Thorpe displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Reed.
Thorpe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Reed.
Thorpe uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Reed.
Thorpe circles away from the clinch attempt
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Thorpe counters with a straight right hand.
Reed throws a leg kick
and Thorpe counters with a big right hand! Oh Reed is in trouble here! Thorpe follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott Thorpe!
As Scott Thorpe got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: Boom goes the Dynamite!'.
