PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evad Atsituab (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Merridew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). He arrived on a last minute flight shortly after looking tired and unhappy. Officials decided the fight should still take place, much to the delight of the fans in attendance.
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evad Atsituab and Jack Merridew. Jack Merridew will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Merridew!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merridew misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Atsituab.
Atsituab drops down looking for a counter takedown but Merridew sprawls and moves away.
Merridew scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Merridew bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Atsituab's head.
Merridew pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Atsituab avoids the body shot from Merridew.
A big left from Merridew misses.
Atsituab steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Merridew.

Atsituab scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Atsituab stalling.
Ground and pound from Atsituab.
Atsituab seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Merridew does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Atsituab working Merridew over with strikes.
Atsituab not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Atsituab in particular looking to stall.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Merridew can do anything to dispel that myth.
Atsituab misses with a head shot. Merridew uses the momentum to regain guard.
Merridew is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Atsituab postures up in Merridew's guard and throws a big left but Merridew blocks it.
Atsituab in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Atsituab is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Atsituab connects with a couple of short punches.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Atsituab advances position into side control!
Atsituab misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Merridew tries to buck Atsituab off but Atsituab is having none of it.
Atsituab in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Atsituab creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Merridew sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Atsituab creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Atsituab scores with punches from side control.
Merridew dodges the ground and pound from Atsituab.
You can see the frustration on Merridew's face as Atsituab controls the position.
Merridew is looking for a sweep.
Atsituab wants to lay and pray for a moment but Merridew keeps working.

Merridew is trying to get back to half guard.
Atsituab throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Atsituab working the head and body with strikes.
Atsituab is putting a hurting on Merridew here, landing some big shots from side control.

Merridew is bucking up trying to escape but Atsituab cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Atsituab unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Merridew wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Atsituab celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
