Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell's entrance music is George Straits- The Fireman. A fine choice. Vasquez has chosen Careless Whisper as his entrance music. Dan Liddell had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Liddell! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Vasquez! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab by Liddell. Vasquez avoids the body shot from Liddell.
Liddell lands a really nice looking cross but Vasquez seems unphased.
Liddell throws a looping overhand right but Vasquez ducks down to avoid it. Vasquez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Vasquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Liddell tries to avoid it but Vasquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Liddell to the ground. Liddell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Vasquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Liddell sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Vasquez wants to pass the guard but Liddell is defending well. Liddell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Liddell is trying is best to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Liddell wants to control but Vasquez is keeping busy.
Vasquez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Liddell is positioning himself well to prevent Vasquez advancing to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Liddell is staying active underneath Vasquez, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Liddell is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Liddell tries to kick Vasquez off but Vasquez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Liddell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vasquez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vasquez's back! You can see the frustration on Vasquez's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Vasquez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Liddell's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Dan Liddell just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Vasquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Liddell but Liddell pushes him off and we're back to square one. Dan Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Vasquez. Vasquez avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Liddell throws a right and a left that Vasquez avoids nicely. Vasquez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Liddell throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Liddell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vasquez manages to avoid it. Liddell lands a nice hook to Vasquez's body. Vasquez takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Vasquez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Vasquez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Liddell looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Vasquez looks gassed! Liddell is looking to slow Vasquez down with leg kicks. Liddell scores with a kick to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Liddell throws a half hearted mid kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Liddell lands with a right hand. A good leg kick by Liddell. Liddell throws a series of punches but Vasquez moves out of range. Liddell punishes Vasquez's body with a nice straight punch. Liddell scores with the left hand. Vasquez knows he should have avoided that one. Dan Liddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Liddell lands a really nice looking cross but Vasquez seems unphased.
Vasquez avoids the head kick by Liddell.
Liddell swings for the body but Vasquez moves out of range.
Vasquez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Liddell connects with a solid leg kick. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Liddell stuns Vasquez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Liddell connects with a jab. BOOM! Liddell lands a beautiful left hook that drops Vasquez. Vasquez tries to recover but Liddell is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Vasquez lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dan Liddell! Dan Liddell retains his light heavyweight title!
