PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Enting Butikol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyov Kirijenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Butikol comes to the cage accompanied by Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Enting Butikol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Lyov Kirijenko!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ben Watson and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirijenko rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Butikol to counter with a crisp jab.
Nice defenses there by Butikol.
Butikol uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kirijenko.
Lyov Kirijenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Butikol throws a head kick but Kirijenko moves out of range.
Kirijenko waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Butikol.
Kirijenko lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Butikol circles away quickly and effectively.
Butikol rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kirijenko moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Butikol scores with a jab to the jaw.
Kirijenko slips a jab and a cross from Butikol.
Kirijenko tries a head kick but it misses.
Butikol looks to score with a jab to the body but Kirijenko is just out of range.
A bone on bone clash there as Butikol blocks the leg kick.
Butikol dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kirijenko works the jab nicely.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kirijenko tries to bum rush Butikol with a series of wild strikes but Butikol uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kirijenko looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Butikol thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kirijenko if he has to take too many more of those.
Butikol looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Kirijenko throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A head kick misses from Butikol.
Kirijenko avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kirijenko scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Kirijenko connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Butikol's hands.
Butikol has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Butikol lands a big uppercut and Kirijenko crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Kirijenko looks OK. Butikol waves Kirijenko back to his feet!


Kirijenko is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
A jab from Kirijenko does it's job there.
Kirijenko is still on wobbly legs! Can Butikol finish him?
Butikol throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kirijenko throws a hook but Butikol avoids it easily.
An inside leg kick lands from Butikol.
Kirijenko seems to have recovered his senses.

Kirijenko throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Butikol was covering up waiting for the punch and Kirijenko finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Butikol has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kirijenko can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kirijenko is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Butikol is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Butikol is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kirijenko defends well.

Kirijenko postures up and lands a big shot to Butikol's brow.

Butikol looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Butikol looking for subs off his back but Kirijenko has passed one foot through into half guard.
Kirijenko wants to control but Butikol is keeping him busy.

Kirijenko throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Butikol has hold of Kirijenko's hands but Kirijenko slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kirijenko lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Kirijenko drops an elbow to the side of Butikol's head.
Butikol moves into full guard.

Butikol looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kirijenko passes into half guard.
Butikol wants to improve his position but Kirijenko is controlling well.
Kirijenko looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Butikol with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Butikol is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kirijenko pulls his head out easily.
Kirijenko passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Butikol!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Enting Butikol will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kirijenko thuds a left hand into Butikol's body.
Kirijenko misses with a wild body shot.
The fighters circling - Kirijenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nice sprawl there from Butikol as Kirijenko shoots in.
Butikol was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Butikol cracks a nice hook into Kirijenko's ribs.

Kirijenko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kirijenko lands in his opponent's guard.

Butikol working for a triangle but Kirijenko defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kirijenko trying to control but Butikol is working from the bottom.

Kirijenko has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Butikol to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Kirijenko is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Butikol pulls down on the head and he's put Kirijenko to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Enting Butikol!
After winning the bout, Enting Butikol thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
