PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vrot Kompot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake FM (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vrot Kompot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake FM!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
FM dives in for a single leg takedown but Kompot sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
FM pulls out of a head kick attempt.
FM fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
FM blocks a head kick by Kompot.

FM pushes Kompot up against the cage in a clinch.
Kompot is working for takedown but FM is calmly controlling the position for now.

FM is trying to trip Kompot. He has hold of a leg but Kompot is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. FM persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Kompot keeping moving, preventing FM from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
FM pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kompot is keeping the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kompot looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kompot controls FM momentarily but FM frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
FM throws a big elbow that misses.
FM trying to control but Kompot is working from the bottom.
FM pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kompot is keeping the position for now.
FM passes Kompot's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kompot has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. FM is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kompot is staying active underneath FM, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
FM controlling the action here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
FM scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
FM is thwarting Kompot's attempts to control the position.
Kompot is looking for a sweep. FM is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
FM fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kompot avoids it really well and circles away.
Vrot Kompot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake FM.

Some bone on bone action there as FM checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
FM pulls out of a head kick attempt.

FM closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kompot makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kompot.

Kompot has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. FM has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Kompot pulls guard.
FM would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as FM accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kompot is trying to keep FM in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
FM trying to control but Kompot is working from the bottom.
FM connects with a couple of short punches.
Kompot pulls FM in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

FM stands up from Kompot's guard - FM perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jake FM will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Kompot shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. FM manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kompot looking to sit in guard and control but FM gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kompot keeping moving, preventing FM from controlling successfully.
Kompot not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

FM drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and FM jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kompot is working an open guard so FM takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
FM changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kompot tries to avoid it but FM manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kompot to the ground. Kompot escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kompot stuffs the takedown attempt from FM. FM gets slowly back to his feet.
A decent looking cross lands there for FM.

Kompot decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
FM wants to get back to full guard.

FM looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
FM is breathing heavily.
FM is trying to get back to full guard.
Kompot with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
FM is trying to control but Kompot manages to pass to mount!
Kompot lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
FM really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Kompot looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Kompot is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. FM can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kompot throws a strike there. FM manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
FM is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Kompot is looking for a kimura but FM is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kompot to get the leverage.
FM is trying to get back to full guard.
Kompot blocks the strikes from FM.

FM looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Still in half guard, Kompot seems content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kompot drops an elbow to the side of FM's head.
Kompot stops FM from getting back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kompot throws a combination but it was largely blocked by FM.
FM tries to clinch there but Kompot circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

FM drives through and clinches with Kompot against the cage.

Kompot escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vrot Kompot dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Kompot shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. FM defends it nicely.
Kompot is looking to clinch.
Kompot circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kompot shoots for a double leg takedown but FM sprawls well. He's pushed Kompot's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now FM is on top in guard.

FM slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kompot pulls FM in to control the position.
FM trying to control the position from guard on top but Kompot is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kompot trying to keep a closed guard but FM is proving a slippery customer.
FM wants to stand but Kompot is controlling his posture from full guard.
FM tries to free his leg and advance position but Kompot is retaining full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
FM shoots in for a double leg but Kompot sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kompot was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Kompot shoots and misses

and FM counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vrot Kompot. That's going to take a lot out of him.

FM manages to break the clinch.
Kompot circles away from the clinch attempt.

FM moves into the clinch.
FM prevents Kompot from breaking the clinch.
FM is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kompot pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kompot is trying to force a seperation but FM has the dominant position.

FM lands a takedown into guard.
Vrot Kompot overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I would just about give that final round to Jake FM.
I think FM has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
