PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Trujillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vlado Kurlev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vlado Kurlev told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jon Trujillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vlado Kurlev!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kurlev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Trujillo was covering up waiting for the punch and Kurlev finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Trujillo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kurlev drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Trujillo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kurlev has Trujillo in his guard.

Kurlev has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurlev is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Kurlev trying to control from Trujillo's half guard. Trujillo has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Kurlev wants to control from the top but Trujillo keeps moving.
Kurlev wants to get up but he can't break Trujillo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Trujillo is looking to stand up but Kurlev isn't so interested in that idea.

Kurlev is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Trujillo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Trujillo has escaped and now he's on top!

Kurlev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Trujillo is one step ahead there.

Kurlev keeps trying to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kurlev is pulling down on Trujillo's head. It's preventing any offense from Trujillo, at least for the moment.
Trujillo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kurlev works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kurlev is on top in guard.

Trujillo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kurlev wants to control from the top but Trujillo keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kurlev content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Trujillo being controlled here, momentarily.
Kurlev wanted to stand there but Trujillo had control of the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kurlev shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kurlev is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Trujillo works his way to full guard. Good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vlado Kurlev dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Trujillo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Trujillo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Trujillo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kurlev on the ground.
You can see the frustration on Kurlev's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kurlev regains half guard, as Trujillo was trying to land strikes.
Trujillo throws a strike but Kurlev avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurlev has Trujillo pulled in close to control his posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trujillo won't allow Kurlev to get back to his feet.
Trujillo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Trujillo trying to control the position from guard on top but Kurlev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Trujillo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Vlado Kurlev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kurlev scores with a takedown into Trujillo's guard.
Kurlev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kurlev distracts Trujillo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kurlev slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kurlev trying to control but Trujillo is working from the bottom.
Kurlev sitting in guard here, content to control.
Kurlev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kurlev stands and throws Trujillo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Kurlev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Trujillo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Kurlev looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Kurlev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Trujillo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Trujillo tries to buck Kurlev off but Kurlev is having none of it.

Kurlev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Trujillo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kurlev is looking to take a break and control but Trujillo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kurlev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Trujillo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Kurlev is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Trujillo looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kurlev gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Trujillo is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kurlev lets go of the hold and Trujillo can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Vlado Kurlev!
