Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sanchez Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge The Axe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez Marquez has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sanchez Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jorge The Axe!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Axe shoots in for a takedown but Marquez shows good takedown defense.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Marquez.
Marquez shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. The Axe eats them both and turns towards Marquez to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The Axe throws a head kick but Marquez moves out of range.
The Axe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marquez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten The Axe somewhat.
Marquez scores with a spinning back kick!
Marquez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around The Axe's waist but The Axe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marquez off to one side.
The Axe takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The Axe shoots in and drives through. Marquez sprawls well.
Sanchez Marquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jorge The Axe.
Horrible takedown attempt by The Axe or perhaps it was just good defense by Marquez, which made it look bad.

Marquez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Marquez manages to break the clinch.
Marquez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Marquez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as The Axe backs up against the cage.
Marquez shoots in but no luck this time.
The Axe wants to counter the offense by Marquez and move into the clinch position.
The Axe fails with a takedown attempt.
Marquez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Despite the aggression on The Axe's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Marquez lands a jab to The Axe's midsection.
The Axe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It appears Marquez was looking to counter with a kick there.
Marquez wants to clinch.
The Axe is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
The Axe throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The Axe shoots for a double leg takedown but Marquez sprawls well. He's pushed The Axe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

No luck with that takedown attempt from The Axe.
The Axe doesn't manage to clinch there - Marquez circles away.

The Axe shoots in and gets a takedown into Marquez's guard.
Marquez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The Axe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like The Axe might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Marquez wants to stand and escape but The Axe is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marquez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but The Axe circles away quickly and effectively.

The Axe feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The Axe is looking to work some ground and pound but Marquez has wrist control.

The Axe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The Axe pushes down on Marquez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Marquez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. The Axe quickly recovers to half guard.
Marquez tries to pass to full mount but The Axe defends it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The Axe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Marquez looking to sit in guard and control but The Axe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Marquez wants to stand and escape but The Axe is having none of it.

The Axe has gone for a leg lock! Marquez slips out almost immediately though and dives into The Axe's guard.


The Axe manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Marquez misses with the combination.
The Axe is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

This has been an exciting period of action!
The Axe uses his free foot to push down on Marquez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Marquez.

It looks like Sanchez Marquez has been cut.
Marquez is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Marquez is squirming around, avoiding The Axe's attempts to control the action.

The Axe is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Marquez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Jorge The Axe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Marquez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for The Axe. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

The Axe smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

The Axe stands and steps away. Marquez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

It seemed like The Axe was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
The Axe darts in looking for a takedown but Marquez gets double underhooks and turns The Axe into the cage.
Marquez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sanchez Marquez.
I think Marquez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
