Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erwin Rommel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rommel's choice of entrance music: stereo mcs- connected. Nick Diaz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Erwin Rommel! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paulsen Ambrosius and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rommel gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Rommel looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Rommel looking for a takedown. A short right from Diaz. Diaz displaying some good clinch control by pressing Rommel up against the ropes. Diaz lands a body shot in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rommel tries for a takedown. No joy.
Rommel is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Diaz pulls him back up using the underhooks. Nick Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erwin Rommel. Rommel turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Rommel is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Diaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rommel wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Diaz is not content to let Rommel control the position. Rommel is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diaz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Sloppy strikes there by Rommel. Rommel trying to control the position but Diaz is working away. Rommel is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Diaz regains half guard. Diaz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Diaz. Diaz looking to control.
Diaz wants to sweep here but Rommel controlling him for the moment. Rommel wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Rommel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Diaz as he jumps to the side. Diaz looks to score with a jab to the body but Rommel is just out of range. The fight stays on the outside here - Rommel looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Rommel shoots in and drives through. Diaz sprawls well. Rommel darts in and clinches Diaz up against the ropes. Diaz has Rommel pressed against the ropes.

Diaz has Rommel pushed against the ropes. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Diaz lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Rommel wants the takedown. Diaz is fighting it off but Rommel persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Diaz's guard against the ropes. Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A close round but Erwin Rommel will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Diaz throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Rommel wants to counter the offense by Diaz and move into the clinch position. Rommel takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Rommel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Diaz. Diaz connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rommel. Rommel circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Rommel fails with the takedown and Diaz counters with a lovely straight right hand! Rommel staying out of range there. Diaz misses with a series of wild punches.
Rommel is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Diaz leaves Rommel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Diaz swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. A jab from Diaz does it's job there. Diaz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Diaz cracks a nice hook into Rommel's ribs. Rommel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Diaz lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rommel darts in looking for a takedown but Diaz gets double underhooks and turns Rommel into the ropes. Nick Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erwin Rommel. Rommel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Diaz paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Rommel counters with a shoot takedown. Diaz fights it but they end up in guard. Diaz pulls Rommel in close to prevent any damage. Diaz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rommel can do to turn this around? Rommel looking to pass the guard. Rommel stopping the sweep attempt from Diaz. Diaz looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rommel puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Rommel wants to free his trapped foot but Diaz is holding on for dear life with his legs. Rommel is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Diaz works his way to full guard. Good work. Diaz keeping moving, preventing Rommel from controlling successfully. Erwin Rommel has got the better of the ground game so far. Diaz preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rommel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rommel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Rommel advances to half guard. Diaz wants to control but Rommel is keeping busy.

Rommel looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Rommel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Rommel on that attempt. Diaz stuffs the takedown attempt from Rommel. Rommel gets slowly back to his feet. Rommel shoots in for a takedown but Diaz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Nick Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erwin Rommel. Rommel doesn't succeed with the takedown and Rommel takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Diaz tries to bum rush Rommel with a series of wild strikes but Rommel uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Rommel closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Diaz quickly recovers to half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rommel wants to take a breather but Diaz is having none of it. Diaz wants to improve his position but Rommel is controlling well.

Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Diaz actively working from the bottom here. Rommel trying to control from half guard but Diaz is working away.

Rommel not landing any meaningful shots this time. Diaz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rommel is working away from the top position though.

A nice side step and Rommel releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Rommel shoots in looking for a takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl out of it but Rommel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Diaz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Diaz swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Diaz works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Diaz ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Nick Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rommel shoots in for a takedown but Diaz shows good takedown defense. Diaz lands a lovely overhand right. Rommel fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nick Diaz is winning the standup battle so far. Diaz uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rommel has time to react. Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A looping hook to the body misses from Diaz. Rommel does a little dance to reset his feet.

Diaz pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rommel is tapping out - this one is all over!
