12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dante Hicks! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hicks fails with an attempt to clinch.
A little feinted left hand from Johnson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Johnson checks a leg kick. Johnson lunges at Hicks with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hicks's hand.
It looks like Dante Hicks has been cut. Hicks looking to score a takedown here. Johnson is defending well but Hicks drives through and ends up in Johnson's guard. Johnson keeping full guard, as Hicks tries to pass. Hicks throws a big right hand that misses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hicks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hicks postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Johnson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hicks, into his guard.

Johnson distracts Hicks with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Hicks wriggles free and stands up. Johnson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Johnson moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromHicks. Johnson lands with a hook. Hicks tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Hicks to score with a decent uppercut. Johnson tries to score with a low kick but Hicks moves his leg out of the way. Sloppy strikes from Hicks. Those never looked like landing. Johnson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hicks.
Johnson gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. We've been told by Johnson's head coaches at Rooster's Coop that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hicks throws an overhand right that lands on Johnson's shoulder, as Johnson tries to avoid the shot. Johnson swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Johnson misses with a straight right. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dante Hicks dominated that round. The cut man is working on Dante Hicks's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hicks moves out of range as Johnson strikes. Hicks unleashes a big counter combination but Johnson bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Jab, jab by Hicks - just one landing. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hicks lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Johnson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Johnson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Hicks connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Johnson's hands. Hicks throws a hook but Johnson avoids it easily. Johnson was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hicks scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Hicks looks up at the clock and then as Johnson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hicks smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! You can see the frustration on Johnson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Johnson tries to buck Hicks off but Hicks is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hicks working away. Hicks has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Johnson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Hicks yanks on the arm and Johnson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Hicks.
