Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Merridew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis has chosen AC/DC - Thunderstruck as his entrance music. The key to victory for Jack Merridew has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Merridew! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rekis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Merridew seems keen to control Rekis's posture. Rekis advances position into side control! Rekis trying to control the position but Merridew is working away. Merridew managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Rekis.
Rekis working the ground and pound. Merridew is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Rekis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rekis looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Merridew is avoiding damage well.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rekis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Merridew wants to control but Rekis is keeping him busy. Rekis is trying to control Merridew's posture but Merridew avoids it. Rekis tries to get back to half guard but can't. Rekis sneaks back into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merridew wants to pass to mount but Rekis is defending the position. Rekis wants to control the action here but instead Merridew manages to pass to full mount! Rekis tries to lock up and control but Merridew gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Merridew unloads with some shots from mount but Rekis bucks and avoids them well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rekis tries to hold on but Merridew pushes him away. Rekis told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Rekis really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Merridew sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Merridew trying to control but he's not successful this time. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rekis tries to hold on but Merridew postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but John Rekis will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Rekis moves out of range of the strikes. We've been told by Merridew's head coaches at Rancid Fight Club that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Merridew misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rekis.
Merridew throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jack Merridew seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rekis shoots in but no luck this time. Merridew scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. A looping hook to the body misses from Merridew. Rekis does a little dance to reset his feet. Merridew throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rekis sees it coming and avoids it easily. Rekis feints the counter takedown. Merridew wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Rekis moves away from the strike by Merridew. Merridew connects with a body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merridew throws a body punch but Rekis moves out of range. Merridew scores with the left hand. Rekis knows he should have avoided that one. Merridew waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rekis. Merridew ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rekis moves away. Merridew clobbers Rekis with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Rekis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Merridew defends well and Rekis ends up having to push Merridew into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Rekis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Merridew is trying to defend but Rekis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Rekis is looking to advance position but Merridew won't allow it. Rekis is working for a kimura but Merridew is defending it quite comfortably.
Merridew on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Merridew tries to get out of the position. Merridew wants to improve his position but Rekis is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Merridew is refusing to be controlled, as Rekis sits in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merridew wants to control but Rekis is keeping busy.
Rekis winds up and cracks Merridew with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Merridew keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Rekis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Merridew tries to roll over but Rekis keeps him under control. Rekis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rekis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Rekis is looking to advance position but Merridew won't allow it. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Rekis is trying to control the action in half guard but Merridew is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Merridew swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Merridew with a hook. Merridew digs a good hook to Rekis's body.
Merridew misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Rekis counters with a takedown into side control. Rekis connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Merridew some visible discomfort.
Rekis cracks Merridew with a big right hand but Merridew just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Merridew tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rekis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rekis swings around for an armbar but Merridew sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rekis's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rekis pulls Merridew in to control the position. Rekis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Merridew's guard. Merridew can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rekis controls the pace. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rekis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Merridew has momentary wrist control but Rekis slips an elbow through the middle. Rekis has gone for a leg lock! Merridew slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rekis's guard. Rekis wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jack Merridew dominated that second round. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
A cross from Merridew lands. Merridew misses with a wild body shot. Rekis has a takedown stuffed. Rekis walks into a stiff left hand from Merridew. Rekis swings for the body but Merridew moves out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Merridew. That snapped Rekis's head back.
Merridew throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rekis stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rekis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Merridew sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rekis somewhat. Excellent takedown into side control there by Rekis.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rekis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Rekis is trying to ground and pound but Merridew uses the momentary lack of control by Rekis to regain half guard. Rekis tries to pass the half guard into mount. Merridew knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Merridew has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rekis is working away from the top position though. Rekis landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Rekis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Merridew defending well though. Rekis missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Rekis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Merridew tries to get to full guard but Rekis has control of the leg. Rekis thows a huge punch but Merridew dodges it nicely.
Merridew keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Rekis scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Rekis seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Merridew has recovered full guard. Rekis throwing strikes but missing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rekis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Merridew looks to land a left hand but Rekis moved out of range nicely. Jack Merridew is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A jab from Merridew does it's job there. Merridew gets caught napping as Rekis dives in and scores a takedown. Merridew manages to retain guard. Rekis postures up in Merridew's guard and throws a big left but Merridew blocks it. Rekis throwing strikes but missing. Merridew wants to stand up but Rekis is controlling him. Merridew wants to sweep but no luck.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merridew keeping full guard, as Rekis tries to pass. Rekis with a flurry of punches that miss. Merridew working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rekis. Rekis stands up over Merridew, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Rekis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Merridew works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Rekis looks for a takedown but Merridew sprawls well. Jack Merridew has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Rekis. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. A jab from Merridew misses. Rekis feints the counter takedown. Rekis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Merridew defends it nicely.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jack Merridew. I think Merridew has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
