Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Everton Belmiro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Yu Me! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Daniel Franklin and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Me changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Belmiro looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Belmiro is trying to get back to half guard. You can see the frustration on Belmiro's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Me trying to control the position but Belmiro is working away. Belmiro wants to control but Me postures up. Me is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Belmiro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Me wants to lay and pray for a moment but Belmiro keeps working. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Me is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Belmiro knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. That's one minute gone in the round. Belmiro is being controlled here. Me working away. Belmiro wants to get back to his feet but Me drags him back down. Belmiro is looking to regain half guard here but Me keeps moving and retains side control. Me takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Belmiro to pass into mount. Me controlling from the full mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. It looks like Me might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Belmiro is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Me is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Belmiro has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Me takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Belmiro is trying desperately to improve position. Me sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Belmiro is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Me looking to control and managing it successfully. Belmiro has left one of his arms exposed and Me doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Belmiro screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yu Me! Yu Me got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
