Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Voodoo People. James has chosen a great song as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan James!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. James sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

James looking for submissions off his back.
James trying to control from the bottom.
Johnson working over James with some ground and pound. James looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James is trying to control but can't.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Johnson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
James is trying is best to control the position here.

Johnson is working for a kimura but James is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James is trying to get back to full guard.
Johnson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Johnson trying to control the action but James is working from the bottom.

Johnson is looking for a kimura but James is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Johnson to get the leverage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Johnson is taking a breather. James says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
James keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
James wants to get back to full guard but Johnson has passed into side control.

Johnson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of James's face.
Johnson connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
James is squirming around, avoiding Johnson's attempts to control the action.

Johnson wants to take his opponent's back but James doesn't allow it.

Johnson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and James is now in Johnson's guard. A big mistake from Johnson there, giving up the dominant position!
Johnson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. James manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.

Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
James tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.

Johnson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as James is looking to escape.
James is just holding on here. Johnson manages to take his back.
Johnson has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of James's body.
James tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Johnson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Johnson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
James with a poor takedown

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. James fights it but they end up in guard.
Johnson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Johnson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
James seems a little lost for a moment, as Johnson dominates the positioning.

Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Johnson grinds an elbow into James's temple.
James manages to work his way to half guard, despite Johnson's best efforts.
Johnson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Thomas Johnson just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Johnson.
Thomas Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

so James counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Johnson wants to sweep but no luck.
Johnson wants to stand and escape but James is having none of it.
Johnson keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.

Johnson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
James wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Johnson gets the takedown into side control.

Johnson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but James is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
James controls the position for a moment.
James takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Johnson controls the position.
James regains half guard.
James wants to control but Johnson passes into side.

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

James regains half guard, as Johnson was trying to land strikes.
Johnson slows the pace down in half guard.
James wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy.

Johnson gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Johnson misses with a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Johnson lands a couple of elbows.
Johnson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Johnson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Johnson passes James's left leg - he's now in half guard.
James tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks James with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Johnson decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Johnson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Johnson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Johnson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

James instigates a clinch.
Johnson is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Nathan James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Johnson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. James just stands there and leans against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Thomas Johnson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
