Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Idriz Enveri! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Arthur Carvalho! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Enveri is defended easily by Carvalho. Arthur Carvalho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Carvalho with a poor takedown and Enveri counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Carvalho throws a lazy head kick and Enveri counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Carvalho! Carvalho is looking for a sweep. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carvalho tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Enveri wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Enveri is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carvalho knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Enveri tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Enveri has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Carvalho is not content to let Enveri control the position. Enveri landing strikes. Enveri decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carvalho to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Carvalho defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Enveri. We've been told by Enveri's head coaches at Foot Loves that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. No luck for Enveri with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Idriz Enveri. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carvalho misses with a head kick.
Carvalho throws a head kick that misses. Enveri attempts a counter takedown but Carvalho avoids it well and moves away. Carvalho throws a sloppy head kick and Enveri moves out of range easily. Carvalho dives in and scores a takedown into Enveri's guard. Carvalho scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Carvalho throws a strike but Enveri rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Enveri stands up from Carvalho's guard - Enveri perhaps looking for a knockout. Carvalho misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Carvalho tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Enveri goes for a double leg but Carvalho avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Carvalho continues to drive forward. Enveri throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carvalho was covering up waiting for the punch and Enveri finishes the takedown easily into guard. Enveri is breathing heavily. Carvalho is trying to control the position from the bottom.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Carvalho is trying to control the position but Enveri postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Carvalho throws a head kick that misses. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Enveri dives in for a single leg takedown but Carvalho sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Carvalho tries a head kick but it misses.

That was a close round but I would say that Idriz Enveri will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Carvalho throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Enveri makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Carvalho pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Enveri wants to control from the top but Carvalho keeps moving. Enveri has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Enveri looking to sit in guard and control but Carvalho gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Carvalho throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Carvalho lands a couple of decent looking shots. Enveri has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carvalho can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Enveri is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carvalho is aware though and is defending well. Carvalho scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Enveri not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Enveri has clasped his hands together around Carvalho's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Enveri tries for a kimura but Carvalho is defending well. Carvalho is trying to control Enveri's posture but Enveri avoids it.

It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carvalho defends it well. Enveri wants to advance to full mount but Carvalho doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Carvalho looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Enveri postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Carvalho is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Enveri, into his guard.
Enveri is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Carvalho sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Enveri's guard. Carvalho seems to be working for a kimura but Enveri defends the submission attempt. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Carvalho has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Enveri defend it? Carvalho steps over the head and cranks it - Enveri is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Carvalho!
