PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Piolet Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barney Rubble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilson comes to the cage accompanied by Jaded. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Piolet Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Barney Rubble!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Barney Rubble has been cut.
Rubble fails with a takedown attempt.
Wilson throws a big counter combination but Rubble scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Rubble shoots and misses
enabling Wilson to counter with a crisp jab.
Wilson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rubble.
Piolet Wilson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barney Rubble.
No joy there for Wilson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wilson lands a jab-cross combination.
Rubble shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Wilson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
A lazy body kick from Rubble
and Wilson counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wilson tries to clinch but Rubble moves out of range.
Wilson throws a right hand that Rubble ducks under and follows up with a left that Rubble also avoids with ease.
Rubble fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Rubble clinches up with Wilson and pushes him back against the cage.

Rubble pulls guard successfully.
Rubble has his hands on Wilson's head, controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rubble is on top in guard.

Wilson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Wilson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rubble is controlling him.
Wilson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wilson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rubble accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rubble missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Rubble thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Rubble trying to control the position from guard on top but Wilson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wilson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rubble on the ground.

Wilson kicks Rubble off and gets to his feet.

Rubble shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rubble showed some decent athleticism there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rubble throwing shots but Wilson is blocking nicely.
Wilson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Rubble.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wilson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rubble is controlling him.
Wilson keeping moving, preventing Rubble from controlling successfully.
Rubble prevents Wilson from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rubble with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rubble slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rubble misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Rubble working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Wilson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rubble wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wilson keeps working.
The strikes coming from Rubble are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Wilson is trying to get back to his feet.
Rubble has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wilson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Rubble.

Rubble is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wilson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Rubble is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wilson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Rubble lands a decent elbow from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Piolet Wilson will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Barney Rubble's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Rubble shoots in but Wilson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Wilson is looking to counter the offense by Rubble and move into the clinch.

Rubble rushes Wilson and presses him up against the cage.

Rubble's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wilson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Despite the aggression on Rubble's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Rubble shoots and misses
and Wilson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A cross from Wilson lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rubble throws a head kick that misses
and Wilson counters with a two punch combo.
Rubble darts in trying to clinch

and Wilson counters with a crisp one two that drops Rubble! Wilson thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Rubble to his feet! Rubble is in big trouble!


Rubble is rocked!
Piolet Wilson is winning the standup battle so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rubble tries to clinch up.
Wilson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Wilson lands a big right hand that sends Rubble crashing to the mat! Wilson stays standing though and waves Rubble back to his feet!
Rubble is still on wobbly legs! Can Wilson finish him?
Piolet Wilson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rubble shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wilson as he avoids it easily.
Piolet Wilson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barney Rubble.
Rubble shoots in but Wilson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rubble seems to have recovered his senses.
Piolet Wilson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rubble is breathing heavily.
Rubble takes one to the side of the head.
Rubble tries for a takedown but Wilson circles away easily

and Wilson counters with a crisp right hand that drops Rubble! Wilson lets Rubble back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

Wilson lands a hook that stumbles Rubble back into the cage. Wilson follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Rubble to the canvas! Wilson pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Rubble has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Piolet Wilson!
In defeat, Barney Rubble stepped up to the mic, saying 'sorry to fans across the nation.'.
