Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tarik Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Maxwell Rubin! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson. Rubin looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Rubin swings for the body but Johnson moves out of range.
Johnson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rubin to the mat! Rubin manages to get full guard. Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Rubin is retaining full guard. Rubin tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rubin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rubin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Johnson tries to roll over but Rubin keeps him under control. Johnson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johnson moves into full guard.

Rubin postures up in Johnson's guard and throws a big left but Johnson blocks it. Rubin showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Rubin works over Johnson with some ground and pound from guard. Johnson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rubin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rubin has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted. Rubin trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom. Rubin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Intelligent Design. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Rubin is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Johnson has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Rubin is looking to defend but Johnson has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Rubin! Johnson pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Rubin taps out and this one is all over!
