Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Paul Leblanc! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davi Preuss! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Preuss throws a sloppy head kick and Leblanc moves out of range easily. Preuss throws a head kick that misses. Leblanc feinted with a counter takedown. Preuss swings for the body but Leblanc moves out of range.
Leblanc drops down looking for a counter takedown but Preuss sprawls and moves away. Leblanc shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Leblanc swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Preuss throws a head kick that misses. Leblanc appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Preuss throws a head kick but Leblanc moves out of range.
Leblanc throws a head kick that misses. Preuss tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Leblanc shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Preuss defends it nicely. Preuss misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Leblanc.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A head kick from Preuss lands but Leblanc takes it in his stride.
It looks like Jean Paul Leblanc has been cut. Preuss lands with a kick to the temple. Leblanc shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Preuss displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Leblanc. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jean Paul Leblanc. That's going to take a lot out of him. Preuss misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Leblanc throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Preuss's waist but Preuss gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Leblanc off to one side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leblanc doesn't manage to clinch there - Preuss circles away.
Preuss goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Preuss throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Preuss tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Preuss throws a head kick but Leblanc moves out of range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Preuss has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Leblanc will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Preuss lands a head kick!
Leblanc avoids the body shot from Preuss.
Leblanc shoots in but no luck this time. Preuss appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Preuss throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Leblanc shoots in and drives through. Preuss sprawls well. Leblanc is breathing heavily. Horrible takedown attempt by Leblanc or perhaps it was just good defense by Preuss, which made it look bad. Preuss lands a leg kick that knocks Leblanc off balance momentarily. Leblanc keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Preuss moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. A big head kick from Preuss and Leblanc is sent sprawling to the canvas!
Leblanc is rocked!
Jean Paul Leblanc's cut is getting worse. Preuss would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Oh Leblanc is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Leblanc will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Preuss wants to stand and escape but instead Leblanc has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Leblanc seems to have got his legs back now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Leblanc won't allow Preuss to get back to his feet. Leblanc forces his way into half guard. Preuss looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Preuss is looking to get back to is feet but Leblanc passes into side control.
Preuss is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Leblanc is controlling him well. Preuss is looking to get back to his feet here but Leblanc is keeping cool and he's managed to take Preuss's back. Preuss is trying to stand back up. Preuss is trying to stand. He's onto all fours with Leblanc on his back. Leblanc looks like he's slipping off but he's actually tansitioning to a beautiful armbar! Preuss has to tap out to a very impressive submission!
