PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dutch Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wado Ryu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryu has chosen kalimba as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Wado Ryu was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dutch Schultz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Wado Ryu!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schultz shoots in looking for a takedown. Ryu tries to sprawl out of it but Schultz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ryu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Schultz tries for a takedown but Ryu sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ryu shapes to counter with a head kick.
Schultz has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dutch Schultz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Schultz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ryu sprawls well. Ryu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Schultz gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ryu tries to get to full guard but Schultz has control of the leg.
Ryu looks like he's trying to stand up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Schultz in particular looking to stall.

Schultz has been working on his balance at Nonstop Intensity, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Ryu.

Schultz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ryu sprawls well initially but Schultz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Schultz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Schultz decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

and Ryu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Schultz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dutch Schultz will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Schultz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Schultz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Wado Ryu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ryu has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
