Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dee Quick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Wright! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quick gets tackled into the cage by Wright. Wright maintains the clinch. Wright slows down the pace here.
Wright's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The fight moves into the clinch position. Wright has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Quick uses from the top position. Quick has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Wright is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quick tries to get to full guard but Wright has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wright controlling the action here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wright lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Wright seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Quick taking some punishment here, with Wright in his half guard. Wright is figuring out what he wants to do next. Wright tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Quick. Wright is controlling the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Quick misses with some strikes from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Quick on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Quick tries to get out of the position. Wright is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Wright lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Quick hang on? Wright looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wright jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Quick manages to avoid the submission attempt. Wright working away. Wright lands a decent elbow from side control. You can see the frustration on Quick's face as Wright controls the position. Wright has knee on belly and moves into mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Wright dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Wright moves into range and clinches up with Quick. Wright decides to pull guard. Quick pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wright is keeping the position for now. Wright is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Quick loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Wright pulls Quick in close to prevent any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quick trying to control the position from guard on top but Wright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wright has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Wright is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Wright avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Wright pulls Quick in close to prevent any damage. Quick is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wright is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wright has escaped and now he's on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wright sitting in guard, not really doing much. Wright works over Quick with some ground and pound from guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Quick's head. Wright landing some decent shots from guard. Wright not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Quick knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wright on the ground. Quick looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wright passes into side control.
Wright lands a nice forearm strike. Quick on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wright has hold of Quick's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Quick seems comfortable defending it but Wright has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Quick is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Quick is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Wright couldn't care less - he's delighted!
