Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Norman Ewert! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Abe Ward! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ward misses with a takedown attempt - Ewert sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ewert keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Ewert swats away the attempt to clinch by Ward. Ewert throws a lazy right hand but Ward sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ewert throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ward. Norman Ewert has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abe Ward. A punch combination from Ewert misses. Ewert misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ward.
Ward shoots in but Ewert avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ward is looking to clinch but Ewert is avoiding it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ward looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Ewert misses with a wild body shot. Ward changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ewert tries to avoid it but Ward manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ewert to the ground. Ewert escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Ewert throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Ewert loads up on a big right hand but Ward slips the punch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ward takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Norman Ewert is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ward sizes up Ewert with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Ward slips a jab and a cross from Ewert.
Ward tries for a takedown but Ewert sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Ewert fails to land with a series of punches.

A left and a right from Ewert both land. Nice combination. Ward walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ward uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ewert. No luck for Ward with that takedown attempt. Ward blocks a jab. Ward uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ewert. Ewert scores with a shot to the body.
Ward looks gassed! Ewert looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Ewert throws a series of punches but Ward avoids them all with ease. Ward looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Ewert preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ewert pulls Ward in close to his closed guard and prevents Ward from doing any damage or advancing position. Ewert pushes Ward off and gets back to his feet.
Ewert fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ewert throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ward closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Ward is trying to drag Ewert to the mat but Ewert just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there. Ewert lands a right hand. Ewert escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A big left from Ewert misses. Ewert fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ward looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. A punch combination from Ewert misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ward tries for a takedown but Ewert sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Ewert looks to throw the jab but Ward is out of range. Ward looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ewert is fending him off so far but Ward persists. Nope, Ewert circles away and we're back to standing. Ewert just misses with a punch to the body.

Ward closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Ewert is doing well to control the position and prevent Ward from advancing to side control. Ewert makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ewert. Ewert wants to stand but Ward is controlling the position. Ewert manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Ewert tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Ward swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Ewert looking to control and managing it successfully. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Ward is looking to improve his position but Ewert isn't that keen on the idea. Ward is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Ewert controlling the pace for now. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ewert has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ward shoots for a double leg takedown but Ewert sprawls well. He's pushed Ward's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Ward moves in looking to clinch but Ewert pushes him off. Ewert misses with a looping left. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ward. Ward slips a jab and a cross from Ewert.
Ewert works Ward's body with a nice hook. Ward looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ewert is fending him off so far but Ward persists. Nope, Ewert circles away and we're back to standing. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Ward tries to close the distance and clinch but Ewert swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Ward takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ewert throws a hook but Ward avoids it easily. Ward is breathing heavily. Ewert scores with a jab. Ward acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Ewert throws a jab when Ward was well out of range. Ewert jabs Ward right on the nose. Ward blinks but takes it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ward on the wrong end of a nice jab. Ward looks up at the clock. Bad move! Ewert lands a right hand from hell, dropping Ward. Ewert pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Norman Ewert! Norman Ewert retains his light heavyweight title!
