Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Clay Matthews! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andy Wilkins! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilkins takes one to the side of the head.
Wilkins keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Matthews shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Matthews throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. A shot to the liver by Wilkins. Beautiful body shot. Matthews misses with a wild body shot. Matthews defending well as Wilkins loads up on a big left hand. A big right from Matthews misses. Matthews misses with a body shot.
Wilkins drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Matthews defends it well. Wilkins scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Wilkins closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Matthews quickly recovers to half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Wilkins trying to control from half guard but Matthews is working away. Wilkins lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Matthews wants to improve his position but Wilkins is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matthews is working hard here to advance position. Wilkins is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Matthews has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Wilkins is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Matthews doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wilkins. Matthews is in trouble now - Wilkins has advanced to mount! Wilkins postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Matthews looks a forlorn figure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilkins drops a big elbow. That's hurt Matthews! More shots from Wilkins and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
