PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Iqbal Al Mamood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Wietrzny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Al Mamood comes into the arena with Mamute Pequenino blaring out of the sound system. Wietrzny has chosen Hunter-Fallen as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Iqbal Al Mamood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Igor Wietrzny!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al Mamood throws a body punch but Wietrzny moves out of range.
Nice defenses there by Wietrzny.
Al Mamood waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Wietrzny.
Al Mamood ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wietrzny moves away.
Wietrzny tries to clinch there but Al Mamood circles away.

Wietrzny forces Al Mamood back against the cage and clinches.

Al Mamood jumps into guard, dragging Wietrzny to the mat.
Al Mamood is trying to control the position but Wietrzny postures up.
Al Mamood looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Wietrzny throwing strikes but missing.
Al Mamood wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Wietrzny is now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wietrzny seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wietrzny thows a huge punch but Al Mamood dodges it nicely.

Wietrzny is working for a submission of some sort.

Al Mamood has a hand on Wietrzny's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Wietrzny takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Al Mamood tries to reverse the position but Wietrzny maintains control.
Al Mamood wants to control but Wietrzny is having none of it.

Al Mamood wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Wietrzny.

Wietrzny swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Al Mamood is now in Wietrzny's guard. A big mistake from Wietrzny there, giving up the dominant position!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Al Mamood accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wietrzny escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Al Mamood gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wietrzny bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Al Mamood's guard.


Al Mamood looking for a guillotine here but Wietrzny defends easily.
Wietrzny told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Al Mamood working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wietrzny doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wietrzny manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Al Mamood can't keep his opponent in guard - Wietrzny advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Al Mamood throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wietrzny sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Wietrzny wants to clinch.

and Al Mamood counters with a shoot takedown. Wietrzny fights it but they end up in guard.
Wietrzny is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Al Mamood got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wietrzny has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Al Mamood has managed to get both his arms back between Wietrzny's legs - danger averted.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Al Mamood throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Al Mamood lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Wietrzny at a distance.
Wietrzny shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Al Mamood as he jumps to the side.
Al Mamood attempts a counter takedown but Wietrzny avoids it well and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Iqbal Al Mamood dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Al Mamood shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wietrzny but Wietrzny pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wietrzny takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Al Mamood closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Al Mamood is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wietrzny can do to turn this around?

Al Mamood looks up at the clock and then as Wietrzny takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Al Mamood smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Wietrzny is looking to get back to his feet here but Al Mamood is keeping cool and he's managed to take Wietrzny's back.
Al Mamood has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Wietrzny.

Iqbal Al Mamood showed his dominance in that final round.
