Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brent Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rangi Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brent Scott! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rangi Smith! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Topper Green and Francis DeMontford.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Scott avoids the head kick by Smith.
Scott fails with a takedown attempt. Smith throws a right hand that Scott ducks under and follows up with a left that Scott also avoids with ease. Smith throws a shot to the body.
A punch combination from Smith misses. Scott stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Scott wants it to stay on the feet. Smith chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Scott can pounce on him.
Scott looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith throws a leg kick but Scott checks it. Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Scott instigates a clinch. Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brent Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him. Scott shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well. Smith leaves Scott with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. As Scott backs off Smith throws a huge counter combo but Scott manages to avoid it all. Scott gets tackled into the cage by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch. A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch. Scott landing knees to the body.
Scott keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Smith's efforts to push away. Smith is looking for a takedown. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Scott walks away with a smile on his face. Smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Smith avoids the head kick by Scott.
Smith displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Scott. Smith throws a nice looking combination but Scott bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Scott is defended easily by Smith. Smith scores with a one two! Scott had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Smith's coach down at Finch Farm was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Smith's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Rangi Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Scott back to the cage. Smith follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Smith leaves Scott with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Scott closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Smith looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Scott pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Scott closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Scott lands a head kick. Smith smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Smith lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith leaves Scott with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Smith throws a combination that misses and Scott counters with a lovely straight right hand! Scott tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Smith looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Scott looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Scott wants to clinch. Smith tries for a takedown but Scott sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Scott tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Smith manages to circle out of the way. Smith looks winded! Scott shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Scott's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Scott checks the leg kick. Scott tried to counter with a leg kick but Smith avoided it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rangi Smith dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Scott gets the takedown into side control. Smith manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Scott seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Smith won't allow Scott to pass to mount. Smith is looking to control Scott's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smith avoid being mounted? Scott is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Scott trying to pass the guard but Smith defending well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Scott is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer. Scott is trying to work for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Scott is thwarting Smith's attempts to control the position. Smith is trying to stand.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Scott. Scott misses with a takedown and Scott takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Scott shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brent Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Scott shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Scott's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Scott wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance. Smith looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith controls from within his opponent's guard. Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Scott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Smith is fighting to break Scott's control of his arms but Scott is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Scott utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Scott preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Scott uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Smith tries to clinch but Scott is having none of it. Rangi Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup. Smith looks to land a body kick but Scott moved away. Scott is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Smith drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Scott defends it well. Scott doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Scott looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Scott. Scott shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Smith kicks Scott off and gets to his feet. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smith attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Smith with a jab. Scott moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off. Smith wants to clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rangi Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Smith throws a series of punches but Scott avoids them all with ease. Scott shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Scott's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Scott lands a really nice looking cross but Smith seems unphased.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Smith manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Scott has clasped his hands together around Smith's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Smith is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Scott off and has taken his back! Scott wants to get back to his feet. Smith connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Scott to escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is not going to allow Scott to sit and survive in this position. Smith is looking to finish with some ground and pound! Brent Scott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Smith not allowing Scott to control his hands. Smith lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Scott.
Smith is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Smith gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Smith gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Smith apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smith stalks Scott and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Scott's face. Scott staggers backwards, shaken. Scott fails with a takedown attempt. Smith misses with a double jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Scott checks a leg kick. Scott tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Smith lands a two punch combo.
Smith closes the distance and clinches. Scott is looking to take this one to the mat. Scott has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Smith has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Scott breaks the clinch.
Brent Scott is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Smith content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Scott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Scott managing to control the position. Scott keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Rangi Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Scott manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smith manages to get himself to full guard.
Brent Scott has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! This has been an exciting period of action! Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that's the end of the fight! Rangi Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
