Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, AleksandrMessi KarelinPalmeiras! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Eikmeyer! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Eikmeyer with that takedown attempt. Eikmeyer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. KarelinPalmeiras throws a quick counter head kick but Eikmeyer was just out of range. Eikmeyer misses with a takedown attempt - KarelinPalmeiras sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. AleksandrMessi KarelinPalmeiras has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Eikmeyer. No luck for Eikmeyer with that takedown attempt. Eikmeyer gets caught flat footed, as KarelinPalmeiras shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. KarelinPalmeiras with a flurry of punches that miss. Eikmeyer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and KarelinPalmeiras defends well. Eikmeyer has his foot on KarelinPalmeiras's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. KarelinPalmeiras works his way back into a safe position though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Eikmeyer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. KarelinPalmeiras gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. KarelinPalmeiras looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. KarelinPalmeiras trying to control the position from guard on top but Eikmeyer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Eikmeyer has his foot on KarelinPalmeiras's thigh. That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Eikmeyer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. KarelinPalmeiras is aware though and is defending well. Eikmeyer looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
KarelinPalmeiras is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Eikmeyer has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. KarelinPalmeiras is looking to defend but Eikmeyer has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for KarelinPalmeiras! Eikmeyer pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, KarelinPalmeiras taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mario Eikmeyer! In his post fight interview, Mario Eikmeyer started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
