PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zack Hairi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weidman is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by King Fantastic- West Coast Synthesizer . Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Zack Hairi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anderson Weidman!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weidman fails to land the takedown.
Weidman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hairi defends it nicely.
Weidman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hairi circles away.
Zack Hairi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Weidman.

Hairi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Weidman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Weidman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hairi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Weidman.
Hairi keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Weidman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hairi is just riding it out for now. Weidman eventually gives up the hold.

Weidman looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hairi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hairi.
Hairi can't keep his opponent in guard - Weidman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hairi tries to get to full guard but Weidman has control of the leg.

Weidman is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Weidman is looking to take a break and control but Hairi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hairi is trying to control but Weidman passes into side control!

Weidman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Hairi on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hairi tries to get out of the position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Weidman manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Hairi content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Hairi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Weidman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Weidman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hairi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Weidman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Weidman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hairi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Weidman but Weidman pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Weidman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hairi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Weidman avoids it really well and circles away.

Hairi leaves Weidman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

An intense looking Anderson Weidman took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'Hopefully this guy will retire now, Its always a shame to end a vet's career but I'm I dont think hes got a win left in him.'.
